    Hi gang,

I've been busy at work and at home and not had many chances to visit lately. Things seem awfully quiet in the S Scale forum. I was just wondering how everyone is doing and how are your layouts progressing?

I am still working on my layout design. I really appreciated all of the helpful comments, many of which will be incorporated into what I plan to do. My daughter leaves for Spain in late June. I plan to move the junk from my train bedroom into her bedroom and start construction on benchwork over the July 4 weekend. My plan is to have the benchwork up and the boxes stowed underneath it before she returns in late July.

I decided to be lazy about detailing the layout design on Cadrail. I have a rough paper design which will let me estimate and buy track components, lumber, and such. I will develop the details of the final track location on the completed benchwork, basically laying things out until I like how it looks. I intend to build on foam anyway with the track basically flat. I will mark the locations and carve depressions or add hills with more foam after the track is in place.

    Don-

Well, I'm on hold here. Just paid property taxes so everybody else's kiddies can go to school, and so on, etc.

And there have been a bunch of other small distractions as well. If those can be resolved, and money magically reappears..........

Hope you'll post up some photos of progress. Did you settle on a plan? Or still playing with one?

    Hello Don,

Looking forward to seeing some inprogress pictures of your layout.

As for my lack of posting here, I've been busy at work, more money but less time. Never a happy balance is there.

I have the parts and the jig for my switches and now I need some time to really play with and see how I do.

    Greg

PS Ken, I can feel your tax situation, property taxes yuk. [IMG]

    Hi All:

Had one day off, Easter, in last seven weeks up until last weekend. Project i was working on hit the wall on Thursday so decided to go with a friend and help run our club layout at the Spenser, NC raildays festival. Had a good time both Saturday and Sunday. Fair number of people came through and as always the kids had a good time working all the accessories on the layout. One of our members from the Tidewater, VA chapter came down with his "Thomas the Tank" cab so the kids were able to run a Thomas engine around a loop of American Flyer "All Aboard" modules.

The layout was small for us, but we had more action accessories and scenery than we could use so it looked really nice.

The downside is the A/C in my '87 Taurus wagon died during the trip and the dealer wants $1,395.00 to repair it. Sigh,.......

Ouch! That's not much more than my tax bill. There goes more hobby dollars! Who was it that so perfectly stated that "behind every silver lining, there's a dark cloud.........?"

    Greg,

I will be happy to post some pictures as I start construction. How does one do that? I have a couple of my garden train layout I could post for practice, if anyone wants to see them. They were taken by a professional photographer friend at my Golden Spike party on May 1.

    Ted and Boxcab,

I understand the pain of taxes. I still have a kid in high school, so I appreciate your support on that. She graduates next May, which is why I want to get my layout working (benchwork and track) before the end of the year while we still have some money. Unlike her brother, who is at a local state university, she has her eyes on Cornell and Stanford. My train budget will shrink really quickly with two in college. I fugure if the layout is working with a couple of trains, I can find the funds for an occasional new car or some scenery construction and keep the progress going.

Cars and houses are necessary evils. It seems like they are always requiring infusions of attention and money. I really hate to spend time or money on either. I do it, because I want to live in a working house and have reliable cars, but I would rather spend the money on other things...lol.

    Hi all:
Yeah, trains is more fun than cars and houses. Unless they're 1/64th scale!

Put the Volvo in the shop today and am looking into doing the A/C Taurus repair with the help of NAPA and a buddy of mine. May find the silver lining yet! Oh well, a little summer sweat keeps ya honest,... right? That's why train rooms were traditionally in the basement, always cooler in the summer!

    Oh well, back to trains.

    Ted
