Unless I'm sadly mistaken, Operation Redblock is the corporate answer to drug and alcohol abuse on the job. On Conrail, you could mark off 'Redblock' if you were impaired when called and supposedly there would be no questions asked. I never tried it so I can't say if it worked or not. I would guess that CSX's OR is similar. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't anything about the program, but have seen (and photographed) a few CSX diesels in the "Operation Redblock" scheme. ( Hint: Post this question in the "On the Rails" forum and you might have a RR employee there that can give you more info. )

From what I remember, CSX had painted GP38-2's in the operation Redblock scheme; it was the "old" CSX type scheme, before the yellow nose. Each "division" had locos painted. I will look for more info and scan some of my pictures, if you are interested.

    Hey Moose,
I found some more info for you:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operation RedBlock is a labor-developed / company-adopted drug prevention and intervention program. The program emphasizes awareness, education, and prevention via union member peer committees. The program aims to change attitudes, to reduce the tolerance of nonusers to job-related drug and alcohol use, and to encourage users to seek assistance.

This is from the site (who'd thunk?) http://www.redblock.com/

P.S.: I found this (and more) by doing a search using the Google search box at the bottom of the page!

Thanks for the info Chessie! I thought that was what the program was about. Someone had posted a reply in the On the Rails forum and said it was similar to Op LifeSaver. Thanks again! (And yeah, who would've thought www.redblock.com )

I almost forgot,,,, CSX not only painted locos for Operation Redblock, they also did cabeese (this photo from the Trains of the South website): [IMG]

I was reading my book "Diesel Locomotives of the CSXT & Predecessors in Color" by Doug Nuckles w/ Thomas Dixon, Jr. and there was a picture of a Operation Redblock unit, along with a table that lists the unit numbers painted in the OR scheme and their divisions:
    2171 Corbin
    2697 Florence
    2704 Tampa
    6387 Mobile
    6718 Atlanta
    6726 Detroit
    6796 Huntington
    6818 Chicago
    8428 Baltimore

I know there is at least one error in the table, since the book shows a picture of #6796 and it clearly says "Chicago Division" on the unit!

Hey guys - I've been away for a while again. These cabeese have always been a favorite of mine - one of the reasons I like modeling CSX is because they still use cabeese, unlike most Class I railroads.

Here's a couple images of an Overland brass Chessie C-27A caboose that I had custom painted in the Operation Redblock/Lifesaver scheme by John Bezeyun of NY:

I have a second unpainted caboose that I'm planning to do myself in the same scheme - you can never have too many! Overland is supposedly planning to rerun this model, so hopefully they'll include this scheme.

Incidently, CSX has added the yellow nose and side sill to the last remaining GP38-2 in the ORB scheme:

The other units appear to have been either retired or repainted in Bright Future.

    Dave,
Great photos! I had wondered what happened to you [IMG] but I am glad you made it back!

I love those cabeese... I suppose they are HO scale???

As far as the remaining OR locos, I am sure they are scarce, especially since most of the GP38's and GP40's were purged from the roster a while back. Now that I know their road #, I'll have to see what I have on hand!

I've been pretty busy with my new Army career, so I only get around to checking the board every few weeks.

Not sure if you picked up on it, but those two pictures are of the same caboose - CSX painted one side with the Operation Redblock logo and the other side with Operation Lifesaver. Makes them kind of interesting...

It's an HO brass model that Overland brought out almost 10 years ago, I think - they're pretty hard to find, but they pop up on eBay and at shows occasionally. I got this one for $130 unpainted - I have a feeling they're going to be about $200 if Overland re-releases them. Painted models will probably be almost $250. I'll refrain from commenting further on the rising price of brass...

Sorry, I spelled his name wrong - it's John Bezuyen - pronounce "Bah-zine". Unfortunately, finding one of the brass Chessie C-27As will be rather difficult - I found one at a show (very lucky) and paid too much for the second on eBay. I also have one painted for Chessie, although I'm not sure the paint scheme is accurate - never seen on in the scheme the model was done in by Overland. I can post scans of that one if anyone would like to see if and perhaps tell me if it's accurate.

I'm probably going to kitbash some of these cabeese using the Walthers bay window model in the future - the window arrangement needs to be changed to match the Chessie style. That's the problem with painting an inaccurate caboose body in this CSX paint scheme - it's made to fit this window arrangement, so it might not fit on a stock Athearn or Walthers bay window. Now that I have the brass version, I should be able to kitbash the plastic one to match it.

If you'd like, I can email you John's phone number - I'd prefer not to post it on the public web site, since it's his home number.

No problemo, send me an email. As far as the Walthers bay window Kaboooze, I just put a Conrail one together. If you get the undec version, it comes with some extra goodies to configure it to match your needs.

Always wanted to try brass. Won't do a loco for a longtime due to the ridiculous prices, but I want to try the caboose. I like a good challenge so I'll look around and I WILL find one somewhere [IMG]

And yes, your 'boose does look great with lifesver and redblock on either side [IMG]

    I also had a shot of GP40 6796: [IMG]

I also had pictures of 2687 & 2704, but I'll save the bandwidth, as they do not look much different from those already posted.

O.K. Moose, this one's for you! [IMG]
Obviously, this unit has seen better days, but it sure was timely that I caught it today! It was sitting at the north end of the yard all by itself [IMG]
