Taking my cue from mark Watson's old Zephyr Thread, I'm going to do what I can to catalog my ride on the Texas Eagle, leaving Sunday via the Hoosier State to CHI for Deming, NM. This will be my first long distance train trip, and I'm going solo to boot. two days on a train, 8 with family, two days back. Roomettes both ways. I doubt I'll be doing anything train related outside, but I'm looking forward to Amtrak. I don;t know what kind of wireless I'm going to have, I know the Eagle's not wifi'd yet, but I know I've read of people finding signals near the Depots, so we'll see what I can do. If you're out that way, wave as I go by!

There are a few spots in Arkansas and East Texas with spotty 3 G cell reception but you should get by them in short order. However, once you get out of San Antonio heading across West Texas, you may encounter more and longer areas with no coverage. Just have to be quick when going through the towns along the way. Looking forward to your posts.

Coming to you live from the Metropolitan Lounge in Chicago!

So, I've reconfirmed something in my trip on the Hoosier State: I. HATE. HORIZON CARS. The Heritage fleet's more comfortale than those. Heck, the 1937 coaches at ITM are morecomfortable than the

Anyway, The last two days Ispent at ITM with the State Fair Train, so I didn't get my luggage pictures up, and I'm still figuring out how to upload pictures, soexpect a glut of them laterish.

left Indy on time, a pop up hurricane dumeped the Indy Sub signals so we tp toed out until the Disp got the system back up. A few quickie pauses for passing trains. The only major delay was CP Dolton, setting us back almost fifteen minutes, we arrived 25 minutes off schedule, which I don't think is really that terrible considering 90% was CHI traffic and 5% of it was weather. My compliments to the train crew.

My first stop was the Metro Lounge to drop off luggage. the receptionists sent me to Lou Mitchell's wonderful meal.

    Gotta dash, their calling!

Real quick, I'm bumming a network off the St. Louis Amtrak Regionals. An hou and a half behind, all CHicago. Passed a Windmill train near PANA during a fabulous dinner of steak, with a baked potato and various veggies. Wonderful food. Man I wish my camera could have seen the skyline at night with the Arch, but I shall have to do without the photos. Gonna stretch legs and get air.

You guys weren't kidding, there's no accessible signal south of st. Louie. I was surprised TRE didn't have something, we sat across from o e of their trains in Dallas.

Passed some RBBX flats on the way into Dallas as well.

Finally landed in San antonio an hour and twenty late, making up close to an hour of time... The Sunset came in on time and never really lost any. The stop in Deming for me lasted about thirty seconds and then they scooted.hopefully, they remembr to stop for me.

    Yikes. Wouldn't that be awful?!

This morning #8 was through my corner of the world just over two hours and forty minutes late. Never heard why. Obviously something went awry on BNSF.

Well, it seems i left amtrak a reminder, my Madison RR hat fell out of my bag as i got out of the roomette and they found it. But i have images of them shooting through Deming at 45 and here's a message across the radio of "Shoot! We have to pick someone up there this time!"

Yesterday was a day of familiarizing with the altitude. My uncle knew a guy with some S guage trains in Silver City, so we saw that, and then he put us in touch with another round robin group member we're going to see tonight.

A few. Mostly a double loop themed around CB&Q built for running more than the contemporary layout, but the brass big boy was purdy...

Can tapatalk read photos off of an Ipad?

I have been able to upload photos with Tapatalk from my Droid. There is usually a button somewhere that brings up options.
