Tudor - hobbies are an important part of mental health, but you've got to have the physical health in order to have life to share with hobby. We are all on your side.

I'm not a fan of "reality TV" but on the occasions that I have seen The Biggest Loser the thing that I like about it is that it's positive and focused on good outcomes and mutual support rather than something stupid - in my opinion - like "Khrazy and Khookie go to Miami" where half the vocabulary has to be bleeped out. (If you don't know which show I'm parodying consider yourself lucky!)

All the best and we will look forward to your future participation.

    Tudor,
Believe me, I feel your pain, because I was obese a few years ago, and developed Diabetes II which quickly got life threatening. I had medical insurance and it took some persistence perseverance and pleading, but on April 2003, I had a Roux-N-Wye Gastric Bypass Operation. I lost 200 plus pounds in six months, and since then my blood sugar level stays around 100 (healthy).

I suggest if you are willing, to discuss this with your physicians, because part of the procedure is education and behavior training to keep the weight from returning.

No matter what you do, my best wishes to you.

Best of luck to you, Tudor. One thought...changing your life style such as dieting, and not doing those things that caused you to gain and weigh this much will create a vacuum in your life. You need to fill that vacuum with many things and time that focus your interest like building difficult models and/or other challenging activities, or else you will become bored and fall right back into the same dangerous routines. I'm praying for your success, Buddy.

    Ken,

Yup. This is what we have been going through for years. I am over 600 lbs at 6'5". I have always been healthy other than the obesity, however as you know, ya get older and the weight takes its toll. I have been fighting with ins for years to take it seriously along with my doctor. They said they would not cover it, because I am not diabetic. They been waiting for me to become NOT healthy before they would even consider it. A week ago, I woke up and could not breath. I was starting respitory failure. I was rushed to the ER in pain I have never ever felt all my life. The small hospital couldn't do anything for me, and life flighted me to a larger hospital in a bigger city up north. I developed blood clots in my lungs. They had me on blood thinner drip for several days to thin the blood thin enough to get past the clots, at the same time concerned they would loosen and make their way to my heart, (which is always a bad thing). Several days later, they got me stabalized, and contacted a hospital in Ohio that specializes in Obeisity. It is a very hard place to get into, and an awesome woman in Ohio who has been my God send got me in there, and I leave tomorrow. They will work with me to get me clots taken care of. Therapist that specialize in Obesity will work with me to get my health back up, and some weight lost. If I still need gastric bypass, they do that too. This place heals from the inside out. They get you on your way to health from inside your head to the physical. Then, gastric bypass. Some don't even need it after the 6 month program, but if you do, they will do that as well. The good Lord as really opened some doors over the past week, it is overwhelming. But, I am on my way to recovery, and can't wait to be healthy again to enjoy this hobby, as well as others I have not been able to for years (restoring classic automobiles).

Thanks again folk for your thoughts and prayers... I will be in touch...
