NS has taken the 6900 to Roanoke from Spencer. Supposedly for some freshening up.

What is the condition of that unit? Is it operable?

It runs regularly at the museum.

Are they doing the work for the museum? Or another reason?

Wouldn't it be neat if they arranged to borrow it from the museum, keep it in tip-top shape for as bit of touring around and when done, the museum gets back a jewel.... Daydreaming....

    6900

To my knowledge, E8 #6900 has not pulled a train at the museum since 2005. All of us volunteers at the NCTM are anxious to see what NS will do to the locomotive. She is one of the most treasured pieces of equipment we have. However, once NS does "nessecary maintenance" in Roanoke (don't hold your breath on this), the 6900 might linger around NS trackage doing excursions for a long while befor it ever returns to Spencer.

Hopefully someone will have an update or photos some day soon?
