Well, it's not out of the ordinary, since this train runs with NS power every day, but this picture was worth posting. D&H 169 with the usual pair of Dash 9s is outbound from Kenwood Yard in Albany, NY on a bright September morning in 2002. The train is bound for Binghamton, where it will go over to the NS for it's run to Chicago.

Picture taken in Waterford, NY at MP A10.7 on the D&H (CP NEUS service area). Nikon N80, Nikor AF 75-240 f/4.5-5.6 lense, Provia 100F film, unsure of exposure.

The line isn't all that busy, and at 25 mph, it's a chase route (the roads are 40 or better most of the way). 169 is on duty at 06:30, so is a good bet to chase. Other than the 169, we have the 168 (it's counterpart) which usually comes down in the afternoon (4 ish), the 514/515, which comes south from Saratoga around 11:00, then heads back out north after finishing work in Kenwood. The other train on the line is the local, which runs to MP A12 in Waterford and back (GE Silicones plant), out of Kenwood.

This particular location is really only good in the morning or with overcast, as the sun sets over the trees in the background.
