Jason got me thinking about North Collier Yard on the CSX, which is slightly south of Petersburg, Va. It is a neat place, as you can drive right up to the North end of the yard and it is only a short distance to a bridge that crosses NS (former N&W) line to the Tidewater area. Anyway, I dug up some old photos of that I had shot there. Harold [ January 10, 2006, 07:04 AM: Message edited by: chessie ]
I remember this train: It was a CSX SD60M and a GP40-2 (repainted into the new YN3 scheme) with a 10,000 foot train! Harold
Yes it is a great spot to railfan. (I'll post some more pics...some have railfans in the background ) Lots of action, easy to access, and "public property". Harold [ January 10, 2006, 02:57 PM: Message edited by: chessie ]
This was an interesting train... The second unit is an ex-RF&P unit (notice the lack of dynamic brakes) 3rd unit is a switcher! Harold
Thanks, Richard. It's a fun place to go! And as you can see by the railfans in the background, there's usually other railfans there. Harold
