North Collier Yard

Jason got me thinking about North Collier Yard on the CSX, which is slightly south of Petersburg, Va. It is a neat place, as you can drive right up to the North end of the yard and it is only a short distance to a bridge that crosses NS (former N&W) line to the Tidewater area.

Anyway, I dug up some old photos of that I had shot there.

I remember this train: It was a CSX SD60M and a GP40-2 (repainted into the new YN3 scheme) with a 10,000 foot train!

Yes it is a great spot to railfan. (I'll post some more pics...some have railfans in the background )

Lots of action, easy to access, and "public property".

K891 is the Sulfer train (all the tankers)

Yes, there are suphur trains in there, but not as exciting to me as the Juice Train.

This was an interesting train... The second unit is an ex-RF&P unit (notice the lack of dynamic brakes) 3rd unit is a switcher!
