North Collier Yard

    Jason got me thinking about North Collier Yard on the CSX, which is slightly south of Petersburg, Va. It is a neat place, as you can drive right up to the North end of the yard and it is only a short distance to a bridge that crosses NS (former N&W) line to the Tidewater area.

    Anyway, I dug up some old photos of that I had shot there.

    I remember this train: It was a CSX SD60M and a GP40-2 (repainted into the new YN3 scheme) with a 10,000 foot train!

    Yes it is a great spot to railfan. (I'll post some more pics...some have railfans in the background :D )

    Lots of action, easy to access, and "public property".

    K891 is the Sulfer train (all the tankers) ;)

    Yes, there are suphur trains in there, but not as exciting to me as the Juice Train. :D

    This was an interesting train... The second unit is an ex-RF&P unit (notice the lack of dynamic brakes) 3rd unit is a switcher!

    It's a fun place to go! And as you can see by the railfans in the background, there's usually other railfans there.
