    Well try again.

I have an atlas GP9 with no engine.. bargain on EBAY.. $5!

What engine would people say to replace it with..

    >> FOR ATLAS ROCO GP9 I CAN SUPPLY A 3 POLE ORIGINAL MOTOR OR A 5 POLE
    JAPANESE
    >> MOTOR, WHICH TAKES A LITTLE MORE EFFORT TO INSTALL. IMPROVES LOCO 100%.

    this means what?
    HELP?! I know nothing...

With that small amount of info, where ever you saw it, I would stay away.

    Happy Railroading!

Geez, if you had no motor and the above suggestion gets you one, I'd hope the improvement would be at LEAST 100%! I guess it depends on which ATlas model you have...the "recent" runs of the past ~10 years are clearly divided between 2 different truck center underframes: a shorter (incorrect) and the later/longer one (correct prototypical spacing).

It would also depend on how much of the "guts" of the loco are still there: powered trucks, contacts, wiring, etc? YOu might be better off just using it as a dummy locomotive or pracicing painting, decaling, or detailing. I have seen new Atlas GP9's for as low as $35 (U.S.) at train shows, so it might not be worth a whole lot of money to make it operational. Atlas carries a large supply of parts for their offerings, but again, you could easily spend more than its worth getting it to run.

VB, it's the original GP9 from Germany. Came out during the late 70's, I think. It is not the Kato/Atlas or later Atlas models.
    Personally, I wouldn't bother.

I actually got it to try painting on! Not that I have any artistic bones in my fat carcass..

then came along with the brilliant idea to get it running.. If it was cheap nuff.

I will go and slap myself now.

    thanks people.

Do not feel too bad. I bought a Atlas GP40 Burlington Northern only to find that it is the old Atlas model from Yugoslavia. The engine works but the wheels on the front truck hardly turn. A feeder wire is broken off of the rear powered truck. I can not figure out how to take apart the front truck. I suspect hair and carpet fiber are stuck in the truck. I paid too much for this loco. This is not the fault of the seller. He stated it was an old Atlas and ran so so. Of course he did not state that the front wheels were stuck. My first not so great experience on Ebay. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix these front trucks? Or should I clip the power and make it a rusty hulk on a siding somewhere [IMG]
