Welcome AGS to Trainboard, I tried to see why your pic doesn't load and then I realised it is because Geocities does not allow reposting of pics. Very soon you will be able to load pictures to trainboard for posting. Welcome to Trainboard and i hope to see more of your posts.
Here is another nice old veteran, its an ex-Conrail EMD SW-1500 switcher that is going back to Buffalo. It would only put out about 100 amps, somewhat less than the 700 to 800 amps necessary to make it useful. It might have been a fun ride, or maybe someone was trying to make us thankful for today's engines! Rear view: The cab is designed for switching, so you have all kinds of visibility out the back where the action is. I'm not sure why they plated over the lower window on the conductor's side. From the engineer's seat you can see evenything. Notice there are NO hand guard rails along the side platforms, only a high mounted hand rail up along the hood! You feel like you are going to fall off while walking along it! Radiator view: Its got a big radiator like a car and even has a canvas curtain to pull down over the radiator intake when it gets cold. This is not road power and they never bothered to install ditch lights on the front. If it were to be the leader on a train it would be limited to 20 mph over any public crossing because of the missing lights. Control Stand view: This one has been over-hauled because it now has several things that it didn't come out with. On the far left is the radio which is probably not standard equipment. In the middle is a speed recorder and Pulse distance counter that it definately didn't have when it left LaGrange, and right in the middle is a newer version throttle and reverser panel. The brakes are Westinghouse 26L which also came along after this puppy was new. Notice the blank cover above the throttle, it fills in the hole for a dynamic brake handle which would be a waste on a unit that never had dynamics. Engineer's view over long hood: (there was no short hood): These always ran hood ahead. [ 18 July 2001: Message edited by: watash ]</p>
