Rich, You seem to have some good contacts/info. Don't care where you got it from, but you were calling for a SP Daylight back when I started this thread.

So you and George were talking to Leon (?) last year in Texas, or someone from kato. Obviously, they clued you into the Daylight, and now for some reason, you are sure the next-next one WON'T be the El Cap. I would like to see an El Cap, but if its something else we all want, thats ok too. NCL, Cap Ltd, TCL, Oly Hiawatha...they're all good.

I do think we will see a rerun of UP passenger cars at somepoint down the line.

I did hear the words "CZ #4" come from Leon recently.

But, hey, share. What do you know? Or, what DON'T we know?

    Thanks!

For now, I'm Sgt Schultz, "I know nothing" This is not the time to share.

We all need to be happy with the Daylight and the Broadway Limited. Others will come trust me.....

    I hope you understand.

This will be my last post concerning the next passenger train.

Any ballpark dates (months) on the planned release of the Broadway Limited?

Or at least guarantee those of us not "in the know" that it wont be hitting shelves on or immediately post the November/December release of the daylight?

A week ago, I would not have bet a dime on Kato releasing another steamer anytime soon. It seems that they took so long after the development of the Mikado... and the bashing that they took from the early releases (due to not having details added, poor traction on grades etc). I particularly doubted that they would do a GS Northern class... after all... the ConCor units are still out on dealer shelves. The Daylight train was also a surprise... they are indirectly competing with Centralia/Intermountains Shasta Daylight and they are going to arrive almost at the same time (CCS will arrive in installments). The GG-1 was another surprise... two newly tooled engines from KATO!!! There certainly has been a paradigm shift in their thinking over the past year.

NOW... depending on sales and (hopefully) no quality issues for the GS-4 and GG-1... It would not be out of the question for Kato to do yet another steamer within the next two years...

The Twentieth Century Limited with a bullet nose Hudson would be the most famous and probably a very much in demand locomotive and consist. BUT... It all depends on what happens with the GS-4 and GG-1 sales and performance.

We'll see within the next year how these two new engines and consists sell and perform.... if it's good... the Hudson and TCL are almost a sure bet before 2010.

Hmm, how about a Hiawatha! with matching steam loco(s).
much like the daylight - new train and new matching steam loco.

If it's another new steam powered train it would almost have to be the 20th Century Limited. Sales potential drives these decisions, and the 20th Century has to rank right up there (or above) the Super Chief and Broadway Limited.

But, would the sales of a 20th Century be better than a heavyweight Chief, a 49'er, an Overland or a smoothside diesel NCL?

It would not be surprising to hear that another west coast train is announced during the 2008 NMRA/NTS for a winter 2008 release; and that an announcement for an east coast train (TCL) and new steamer could be announced for Spring/Summer of 2009. Everything depends on how well these 2007 announcements works out.

    It'll be a gusher!

I believe that their is a vast untapped amount of green re$ource$ waiting for just these types of east coast trains. I'd love to have an NCL Vista Dome passenger train announced for 2008 too... but... somehow I believe that the TCL may surpass the pent-up demand for the NCL. Certainly a UP train and/or another Santa Fe train will be well received by the west coast modelers.

Well, I can guarantee that in at least one household, a Loewy NCL would outsell any other train from any road. That said, I still think that a 20th Century Limited is the obvious choice.

There are certainly other trains which could be done using the 4-8-4 platform established by the new GS-4.

The FEF could be done and certainly a UP consist would be a logical offering. I'm not a big fan of the UP... but I might bite one one of those 49er or Overland passenger trains.

What 4-8-4 powered Santa Fe consists could be offered by Kato in the future? Is the Chief heavyweight the one Wig-Wag is thinking about?

I bring these questions up because; perhaps, Kato sees that the E & F unit diesel field has become too saturated and the steamer market is more viable at the present time for new passenger trains. Just a thought...

How about the ATSF business fleet pulled by #3751? Do ya think that would sell? I do!

Now, for all the NP Modellers out there:
There is a easy way to practically guarantee that Kato will produce a NCL: We all need to continue kitbashing our own versions, using ConCor cars as stand-ins, American Limited core kits and Brass Car Side NCL side panels: All stramlined NCL cars can be done that way (though some with a little bit of modellers licence). Depending on your era you can throw in a Kato slumbercoach as well.

Paint everything and enjoy your own NCL. Once all of us are done Kato will anounce a NP Vista Dome NCL ;-)

    Cheers

Your right Dirk!. I have all the kits and cars in my "to do" box but have not started them. I will get on that right away. If I am diligent, I can have them completed by years end and announcment from Kato should follow shortly after.

I've been slowly working on a NCL along with a couple of other trainboard members. We're each doing a few cars in order to lessen the blow when Kato or someone else decides to come out with an official NCL trainset. Come on guys, hop on the band wagon and get working on those NCL cars.

Here's one of my contributions to the effort

Meanwhile, on another front, the quest to have Kato produce an El Capitan goes on. If we build them, they will come....hope hope.....

Sweet NCL cars! I have all my NCL kits stored away at the moment as I am still not sure if I will stick to 1949 (which would allow me to run the first lightweight equipment) or backdate further to 1944 (to give the Z3 a more plausible role as pushers on Stampede Pass).

Your cars are very nice!! Make me want to run to the basement to do some passenger car modelling....

    Cheers
    Dirk
