Yes, there is a LOT of history in Las Vegas and a LOT of space in the hotels, but, as you say, not a lot of train activities. We were in Reno and are looking at that again. Close enough?

Its a long drive of a whole lot of nothing...or a short flight. But hey, I flew to SLC last year for the public show with my son

This should make C&NW fans happy! (the number boards; or rather lack of number boards - it's not perfect, but Kato has provided a reasonable "correction")

Wow, I'll say. (y) I hadn't see these or the E prior to your posts. Thanks for putting these up. I grew up in Chicago and rode the C&NW's "scoots" hundreds of times, as did my Dad thousands of times in his commute over 16 years. The C&NW provided safe and consistently excellent service, even in the worst of Chicago's winter weather.

On a summer day in 1978 I shot this train, outbound between Palatine, IL and Barrington, running on the left hand main of course.

Absolutely LOVE the old Chicago area commuter cars and trains. Wish Kato would back-date a bit and make some of the old corrugated cars. Always found it interesting that most commuter trains had a nick-name. As mentioned, C&NW had "Scoots". CB&Q / BN had "Dinkys". GM&O had "the Plug", and poor NYC / PC's train was known as "the Dummy" !!! Wabash / N&W had the "Orland Park Cannonball". Some called CRI&P commuters "the Rockets", but that was VERY wrong !!! IC /ICG were called "Juicers" (they're electric). MILW trains had a nick-name, but can't think of it.

My dad always called them Scoots just like the C&NW. Doing an on line search turned up a lot of other folks who also called them Scoots.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure they called them Scoots on the MILW, just like on the C&NW.

The MILW called their local freights "Patrols". I love the term.

Since Kato built the Pullman Superdomes for the Hiawatha, maybe we will get lucky and Kato will do some Santa Fe Budd Big Domes next. The Bachmann Big Dome is just not up to snuff.

    Finally. something that makes sense.

I was disappointed with the recent email from KatoUSA. Only mentioned the CNW E units with Bilevel cars... and an HO scale locomotive. I was expecting some big new announcements for Trainfest.

How about the ACS-64 with newer cars? Surely there must be something? Um, or is that all they run on the NE Corridor?

On the NEC it's either Acela Express high-speed trainsets or ACS-64 locos hauling ancient Amfleet cars, with some Viewliners added to the long distance trains - plus a sprinkling of cab-control cars rebuilt from old Metroliners.

I have not seen any ads or comments on the Twentieth Century Ltd... or for that matter... the re-release of the Broadway Limited. I was under the impression that these were going to be the Christmas releases this year.

I went by the Kato booth at the Oklahoma Train Show last weekend. They seemed to be only pushing their C&NW Chicago commuter stuff and their starter train sets right now. I think their brochures showed the Broadway limited and a rerun of the Super Chief. They were all talking to other folks so I did not ask any questions and never made it back by to do so.
