I don't know what the consist was, but Walthers tends to have New York Central cars. I don't know if they do much in cars before 1948 however. I'm using the wrong time frame (by something like 2 years) Empire Builder cars for my SP&S Steamer but it doesn't bother me.

Stainless steel corregated side cars. That loco is one of two built specifically for the Empire State Express. I'm not a modeler so can't help with where to find them. :tb-biggrin:

Walthers does make those in stainless steel with New York Central on the side. The Budd Cars will be released end of January with metal finish just like the El Capitan, Super Chief and Superliner cars and I believe they will have a set for NYC. You could also look for an empire state express brass set, but I doubt you'd be willing to spend that kind of money.

I saw this post the other day and it sort of stuck with me. I had to do some searching. Although thisis't the exact info you wanted it may help in your general knowledge of the train: http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Empire_State_Express

    more links from various sources:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_State_Express
    http://www.rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/ese/index.htm

I got all this simply by entering empire state express into my search engine. I find researching a train and then ending up all over the web sort of fun.
