Hello all! I am currently in the process of taking down my current one deck layout to build a new two deck one. The new layout will keep the same strong focus on urbanity as my old one. The total size is about 14 x 10 feet. It is set in modern times and is of course N scale. I run commuter trains mostly, as well as light rail. Below is a photo of about half of my old layout. One of the main reasons I decided to take down this layout was because there was so much I thought I could add to make it even better. And to be honest, the street scenes weren't as good as I wanted them to be. For the new layout I decided to use a technique I found online where you put a thin layer of plaster over craft foam and, after it dries, you press on the plaster to create small cracks. Craft foam going down with light rail tracks Plaster going down. This is about half of what will be the new downtown section. First layer of paint on the plaster and carved flangeways. I still need to add another layer of paint and crack/weather the street, and I'm thinking it might need to be smoothed out some. I also decided to try out using gray chalkboard paint to give it a more "street-like" texture. I plan on updating this thread as much as I can, but the majority of construction might not happen until summer. I'd love to hear any feedback or tips you can give me! Thanks in advance.
