Surprised I haven't seen mention of this yet (maybe I missed it). A welcomed addition to the double-track, concrete tie line. http://www.katousa.com/images/unitrack/20-230.jpg Looking forward to the first review. I'm specifically interested in hearing if the imbedded #4 turnouts have the better point configuration like the #6 turnouts, or if they retain the individual #4 "issues."
I saw it on another forum (and the Kato newsletter) but not here. Cool new track piece but I wonder if they could have done better with a solid wooden tie version. Maybe they'll do one eventually. For me, it's a day late/dollar short. I could have used a couple on my last layout where I was using the concrete tie track. But my new layout is only wooden ties so that I can "backdate" if I want to. I'm sure I'll buy some eventually. I still have my concrete tie track so I'm sure it will get used at some point for something.
sorry fellas, kato cancelled the 20-230 and 20-231 project about a year ago .saw this on their twitter acct. UPTODAY
If it was cancelled a year ago - why have they been announced in the December 2014 Newsletter emailed out on 19 Dec? They're also listed on the Kato USA website.
Very nice! That is just what I wanted for my bullet train point to point! Dear Santa / Wife / online train pusher, Please send me one of each. I promise I'll be good this year, Thanks, Steve
They were originally announced in 2013 and were cencelled in early 2014, but have now been set for release in the US. Apparently they have already been released in Asia. Maybe they were having production issues or just waiting for enough interest to justify production. Whatever the reason was for the delay, we should start seeing them online and at your LHS sometime in January
Concrete ties can be colored with a paint pen . I colored my concrete double track and weathered my black tie track with a couple paint pens .
These turnouts are for sale on Ebay. They are listed at $31.50 each, plus $7.80 for shipping. They are closed for the holidays until Jan 4. I've ordered from them before, as their prices are better than any other online retailer I've come across for Kato products, and have always been satisfied with their service. Shipping charges are more than fair considering the distance and take 8-14 days.
Am I missing something? The individual Kato #4 turnouts can already be configured like that for 33mm track spacing. It is the #6 turnouts that don't have that spacing available except for the double crossover that combines 4 of them with a diamond. I would have rather seen the single crossover in #6s with 33 mm spacing, because I am using individual #4s now to get that.
The individual #4s are wood tie, these are concrete. Seen them on eBay but don't have a need for the concrete variety.
I agree. Having a single crossover with #6 turnouts would have made more sense. I'm not quite sure why the decision was made to use #4's. I have single crossovers using #6 Unitrack turnouts on my layout, it can be done, you just have to use the 20160 curves to create the proper parallel track spacing. It's not ideal, but it's one those Unitrack compromises you have to make if you want to use two #6 turnouts to create a crossover.
Please, everyone, caution in mentioning specific retailers. If you want to point a member towards a particular location, keep in min our Retailer Policy and consider using Private Messages.
The last time I tried sending a PM including the name of that popular dealer located near Baltimore, the auto-censor blotted out the dealer's name from the body of the message. It seemed that the auto-censor had a "global" reach that included PMs rather than just forum postings. Has this issue been fixed or will it still occur?
