Hello everyone. I finally getting my HO set ready to put up that I got from my grandfather after he pasted. I use to love helping him set it up and run it when I was a kid and now that I have room to set up what I can on a 7x10 layout. So much has changed, so I am kind of looking forward to getting it going, albeit OLD SKOOL...No DCC...YET. Im sure I will have more than a few questions.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Please ask your questions, don't hesitate. Plenty of people with useful answers here.
Welcome Jeff! It sounds great to be able to set up with the family connection and keep the good memories. And I'm with you, no DCC!
Got to thinking and wondering, if you're interested in regional railroad stuff (prototype and model) check out Cowcatcher Magazine at: http://www.cowcatchermagazine.com/ Cowcatcher covers rail news in TX, OK, AR, LA, KS & MO.
Well I have no area or RR I particularly want to model after. I do want to run BN, SF and BNSF maybe some Frisco. I plan on free lancing the layout on a 7x10 with a possible 4x8 add on a little later. I have drafted up several layouts and I have picked one to start with. I don't know how long I will stay with it until the track gets laid. I plan on starting the bench work this weekend, but I have a bad case of spring fever with this warm weather here. I have gone through most of stock and make sure they roll, run and hook up. It will be interesting to say the least. But...the OLE KISS method will be front of my mind. I know it will be way to easy to get carried away and never get finished. Maybe I can meet some of the other Okies here..lol
As a friend of mine in Owasso would put it, he's "Digitally Challenged" (still running DC power packs). Me, I;ve been doing DC & block control since Year 1. But with the acquisition of several diesels with DCC decoders, I'm seriously looking at DCC. But I'm still sticking with hand-operated ground throws- gotta keep those brakemen busy somehow.....
Well, if you let me run anything, I am sure I would be called way worse!! muahahahaha Whats a dispatcher? Freelance and freeroam....wow "did I say that"? lol
That's true--they need to earn their keep. Though you must admit, guys three quarters of an inch tall don't eat a whole lot...
