At the N scale shop on Indianapolis's northeast side today I learned of a new decoder. This new decoder is supposed to be for older equipment. It is very small and only has forward and reverse plus light direction control. They were not sure of the manufacturer, the info they had was at home, but they thought it was by Lenz. The price range was in the under $25 range. I hope this is true because I have some older equipment that this might just work on. The Shop also told me that it has a 3 yr guarntee. They were told that even if you fried the first one by a bad installation they would replace it. The shop owner had a stroke a year ago and now his sons are taking over. Hours are limited at the present time but they are working on getting it open on a regualr basis.

This could be the Lenz LE077XF - Tony's article about the decoder.

As far as smaller and for older locos, just means that those locos aren't DCC ready as the new releases are. Atlas GP30/35s are and example (i'm going to convert 3 shortly) as they don't have room and some work is required for proper operation.

It is cool that they will replace the decoder though. Fried a few myself, and it's a pain.

    Corey,
Which route are you going to take for the Atlas GP30/35's? Are you going to use a milled frame or try and be creative? Inquiring minds need to know. [IMG]

Good answer! I have some GP30's to do, but have not decided what to use,,,, it seems like the longer I wait, the more choices there are!

Heck, I forgot to check our club web site.... it appears that our DCC guru has already "been there, done that" as far as a GP30/35 conversion: http://www.trainweb.org/nrmrc/dcc/atgp3035.html

Maybe I can get him to hold a "clinic" at the next show, and install my decoders [IMG]
