An on line retailer has just put up a ton of Con-Cor passenger cars. I looked at the Con-Cor web site. It lists many cars in smooth and corrugated sides.

    Questions:
Are these re releases of old tooling?
Have there been any upgrades to their tooling?

They list sleeping cars, What is the configuration of the cars? 10-6, 4-4-2, etc?

Price seems quite low compared with Rapido and Centralia.

    Any reviews or opinions?

Re-runs with the "New", being MicroTrains trucks and knuckle couplers or ConCors dummy knuckle coupler.

The last I heard there will be a new run coming out with plans to upgrade the cars. Specifically, the former Rivarossi Heavy Weights.

In a private e-mail (see below for address) send me the website address so I can take a look. It's a shame we have to do this but give me a shout out.

Thanks for the shout out. I don't believe these are anything new. Simply, cars found in the warehouse with the dummy Con Cor knuckle couplers installed, in place of the Rapido's. They aren't a bad deal and the price is friendly.

Quote from Pete Steinmetz "Price seems quite low compared with Rapido and Centralia."

I would put this a different way. I would say price of state-of-the-art Rapido and
Centralia- and current Walthers too- are quite high compared to what I used to pay for 1980s Concor. But I expect to have to do a lot of tinkering, couplers, etc. on the older cars.

    New ConCor Passenger Cars

I have mixed messages from ConCor over the past few years, particularly the post-Kato years. The Chinese mechanisms were (are?) inconsistent, but some of the newer tooling is very impressive, with a capital V. They are really bringing out some eclectic off the wall type stuff, and I like some of that stuff, except the prices. Plus, I love their GS4 a million times more than the (ugh) Kato, and really love the decapod which still runs terrific on my layout.

I am wondering about the passenger cars.......the only gripe I ever had with ConCor rolling stock and other products were those god-awful truck pins, you know, those short thick ones with the dual clips to the interior which either failed, or wore out. And, of course, not once in the many many years have I ever seen a replacement pin, just the thousands of two piece pins offered in MT1000 packages, and then they didn't work that great.

I saw some ConCor pieces and saw regular or standard truck pins and got a lot of hope after seeing them.....has anyone seen the underside of these new passenger cars?

As has been stated they are old tooling with new trucks and couplers; however, they are not Micro-Trains trucks or couplers. The couplers are a new design from Con-Cor. They are knuckle couplers and will mate with Micro-Trains, but they have a rigid jaw. The new trucks are designed so that the couplers can easily be replace with Micro-Trains couplers. Here is more information on Con-Cor's new coupler. Personally, I think Con-Cor's cars look pretty good, but nowhere near as good as Rapido(Idon't have any Centralia cars to compare to). Con-Cor's cars are quite a bit cheaper, but they also do not come with lighting, which Rapido and I believe Centralia do.

The quality of the cars looks to be much improved over Con Cors previous efforts, I'd like to see where prices are, if anyone can let me know I'd appreciate it, thanks !

They seem to be in all the old roadnames, even the Santa Fe ones are that awful fantasy scheme with the stripes along the bottom, and the retailer in question only seems to have gotten two of each when they usually get more of each item than you can poke a stick at. I think Con-Cor just found a few more body shells in a corner of the warehouse, stuck new couplers on them and shipped them out.

Lighting kits for Con-Cor Passenger cars

I model D&H, they had a mix of smooth side and corrugated passenger cars.... I have a number of Con-Cor Passenger cars with D&H paint scheme. I just added Easy Peasy Lighting kits to my Con-Cor Passenger Cars. Now they light up the same as my Rapido Passenger Coaches.

for $60 it looks like a pretty nice way to dip a toe into a scale i'm just starting with.

Just got my first 2 cars, I had ordered new road #'s with new couplers. They sent the wrong cars, the old ones with rapiddles and old road numbers. : (

What was that one guy saying about not wanting any reviews of sellers etc. on here? That nobody wanted to know? hmmmm.....

    But ANYWAY;

This seller is usually good, but this is really lame. I was pretty stoked about 'em, and guess patience will have to work. Now, their website shows they only have one of each left. Let's see if they can fix this..... before the others sell out.

I just got My Burlington Northern Coach to add to my early 70's Central of New Jersey commuter train. I was planing to change out the trucks and couplers with Micro-Trains but noticed that it rolled well with my other cars. But the couplers had to go. I had a pair of Mchenry couplers left over from another project and they fit right in, just had to snap the lid back on the coupler box. I think that Accumates would also work just as well. Just thought I'd pass it on for anyone out there wanting to get rid of the dummy couplers.

Are you doing this train? In the middle of the picture, you can see "The Jersey Builder". Depending how I feel, I run the GP-40 for the RVL & this E-8 for the Coast Line.
BTW, since these pictures were taking, I added the NJDOT logos to the GP-40 & all the cars.

The NJDOT stickers are on an EL set #60-16 from Micro-scale. There are 4 on each set.
