Two independent and usually reliable sources report that Athearn has an SD70MAC, FEF3 and, wait for it, a DDA40X in the pipeline. Has anybody else heard this? Cheers David
I'm not suprised that they would do the 70MAC, given what we know about Athearn. All are probably not bad ideas, if they do a good job of them.
I have not heard this yet...However it would be an EXCELLENT idea!!! I'd buy and FEF-3, and DD40, provided they do a good job on them. Chuck
I'm just curious, why would you ask for this? Kato has made at least 2 different runs of these, one within the last year, and you must know that many of us think Kato is the best.
Kato also did the SD70MAC, although it has been several years and there probably aren't that many available on the market. Regards Ed
Ed Lots of the Kato SD70 on eBay. When I was at my LHS up here in Canada this past weekend, I noticed 2 Alaska and a bunch of BNSF, so they seem to be still around.
Kato came out with the SD70M, as did Athearn. This one's the SD70MAC. As for the rest, I'm sure this is all because of UP's new royalty-free licensing policy, as thge FEF3 and the DDA40X are synonymous with the railroad whose initials are "U" and "P." I have a feeling they did the tooling, etc a while ago but decided back then to not release them because of you-know-what. NOW that The Wicked Witch is dead, Athearn can now take us to the land of Oz.
They already have the frame/drive for the SD70MAC so why not do the shell? The Northern will be welcome if the Challenger does well. The Centennial on the other hand must be excellent to surpass those already out there and since it had such a limited prototype history it better be a gem as most of the demand market may already have them. All that being said I could come up with 20-30 other models not previously done that had larger prototype 'coverage' that the market is looking for in relatively large demand.
I have heard that they are going to release an F45 in the not-so-near future. An SD70ACe would be much more appreciated than another vanilla SD70MAC
This here is the one I want to see made in N. SP 7342 Daylight. This is a pic of Athearns new HO version. Thom
Of the hundreds of paint sschemes available to be produced on the SD-40-2, we have seen, what - Four - in the last several YEARS ! That's why, so many modelers want a SD-40-2 from someone other than KATO. Yes, I have bought the undec. units and made them work, cause I like to paint/decal, but many folks don't. A Generac base version that we could ADD details to would be Great KATO needs to be more prolific on the SD-40-2 Releases......... AF
I want DD40s in CP Multi Mark. Ok, I'll settle for DD40s undecorated. Works for me. Id buy two at least and paint them up in Pink Fox. Buy two more and paint them up in CP.
