OK. I've searched through the forum and can't find an answer. I just received my NCE USB card. JMRI seems to like it. It is communicating because the lights go blinky blinky. I have my track output going to a SW8 Mark II and the Power Cab will make my tortoise do it's thing when selecting the switch number.

When I startup JMRI and either ope a Panel or the Turnout table and select a switch, the switch on the computer does its thing and the NCE USB LEDs go blinky blinky. BUT the tortoise doesn't do anything.

I obviously have something set incorrectly. I know the sw8 mk II is working, I know the tortoise is working, I believe that the NCE USB board is working because of the blinky blinkys. I'm assuming that the JMRI panel switches are telling the NCE USB to tell the Power Cab to move the tortoise switch. But it doesn't happen. I can only think that I have a setting incorrect in the Power Cab.

    Help?!

Don’t know how to run the train with it yet I just got a DCC controller three days ago and the usb interface when I got home from work tonight.

However, I think it read my engine info so it is transmitting some things through the power cab else the engine wouldn’t have responded. I saw all the CVs flying by on the bottom of the screen as it was reading them. The usb interface does light up on traffic when sending the command to open or close the turnout, the turn out just doesn’t do anything. The turnout works fine if I tell it to through the power cab.

So the sw8 mkII works the tortoise works the power cab works the usb interface blinks on commands and did communicate with the engine

Add your loco to the loco table or via DecoderPro and then it will be available in JMRI throttle/ programmer. For the switch you have to add it's address to the switch info. Anything you want JMRI to work with. you need to add its address to the particular JMRI function.

THANK YOU PIETER! I knew somewhere that I didn't have the address correct for the software to know where the switch was located. I was a Software Engineer for 11 years programming in ADA for the defense industry, so I kinda knew what my issue was, but I am now four days into this DCC stuff and didn't know what I was missing. In the Table Turnouts, I just arbitrarily set my switch Addresses to 100, 101, 102, 103, etc but I have been calling the switches on the layout 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. The Power Cab knows that when i select accy 11 to switch 11. I changed the switch address in Table Turnout to 11 or NC11 and all works fine. Thanks to ALL of you for your fantastic inputs and rapid responses. I think I'll like it here.

Unfortunately, I don't have a club or know anyone in this area to ask questions of so I am doing this all on my own except for the help I get from you guys/gals.

    Thanks again
    Dan

OK. I really screwed up this time. I have four locomotives, Athens Challenger 4-6-6-4 with Tsunami board long address 3943, I have a MLW Hiawatha set FP7A with a TCS K0D8-F board long address 950, MLW Hiawatha set FP7B with a TCS K0D8-D board long address 951, and a second MLW Hiawatha set FP7A with a TCS K0D8-F board long address 952.

I got over confident since Pieter helped me get the NCE Switch 8 MKII working, that I decided to get the locos working. Major boo boo! I wrote something to the locos wrong and now none of them work!!!!!! If I select loco 127, which was my consist that had all of the locos in except for 950, then all of them work. If I select loco 950 it works. but selecting Challenger 3943 or 951 or 952 by themselves i get nothing.

Not happy! How do I fix or how do I find out what settings I did that lost their address? Strange thing is that the consist 127 uses 3943, 951, and 952 as the individual addresses! At least I know I didn't break them and that it is a setting/setup issue I did in decoder pro.

reset your decoders, start fresh.. you did not indicate the type of consist although it sounds like advanced.

It’s all fixed. I didn’t get rid of the consist. I’m learning! Lots to learn but I’ve done ok for a couple weeks I guess

    Hi Dan -

I you have not yet joined the JMRI Users Group, I strongly recommend it:
    https://groups.io/g/jmriusers

The creators of JMRI are members of the group. Along with other expert members, they are ready and willing to help you diagnose and solve problems. Many are also NCE users, which is another plus.

It sounds like you're doing well on your own, but don't overlook this excellent resource. If you do seek help, be sure to include complete details on your configuration: computer type (PC, Mac, etc.), operating system and version, DCC command station and version, USB interface version, etc.
