    Chessie,
that would have to be one of the most comprehensive lists I've seen. i'm interested to see how many members find anymore locomotives, it will also be interesting to see how many members have a different idea of all EMD locomotives :D

The Soo Line wrecked a GP9 and rebuilt it with body parts from a GP35. I don't know if it was ever official but it was know as the GP22 ((GP9 + GP35) / 2 = GP22)

    You missed SD26 for starters, and I've seen GP10s too (Paducah-rebuilt 9s). Forgot the DDA40X, the DD35 and the DDA35. SDL39, FP10, GP40TC, GP38AC, SD50F. I think you should put an "R" after GP7 and GP9, Guilford runs them.

Also, can you show me a picture of any of the following:

    F1,4,5,6,8 (A or B)
    E1,4,5 (A or B)

I think these units were "skipped" in production, but existed in design only. There is a logical progression from 1 to 9, but they didn't produce them that way.

Also, have not seen an "SD44" on anybody's roster. If you're referring to the MK rebuilds from SP SD45s for the SP, they were re-classed as SD40M-2s.

As far as I know, there was no F1 (though I think the FT was sometimes referred to as the F1),4,6, or 8. However, late F3's were sometimes called F5's. The E1's were owned by the Santa Fe. I think the B&O units were EA/EB's. The E4's were owned by SAL. The only difference between an E3 and an E4 is the E4 had a tilt out nose door. The E5's were owned by the Burlington. They had stainless steel sides and fluting along the bottom panels. They also had smaller side windows to allow room for a letterboard below the intake grills. Internally, they were identical to E3/4's.

The SD44 (there was only one) was an SD45 rebuilt by the SP in 1981 with a 16-cylinder engine. A lot of work had to be done to mount the smaller engine, so SP decided to just derate the 20-cylinder engines instead.

This thread may be refering to currently active engines only, but if not ....

Don't forget UP's M-10000, B&M's 6000, and the early Zephyrs (pre-E5's), just to name a few of the early EMC/EMD "experiments".

The F4 was just a mistake on my part, Got comfused with the E4 because I added those last (even though there in the beganing and middle of the list) I also am not entirely sure that theres a FP7B/FP9B can somebody check this for me? And finnally theres a SD40G, and SD50-3M that I forgot to add.

Weren't the four Alco PAs rebuilt for the D&H classified as PA-4s. Also don't forget M-Ks entry into new locomotive building, the three MK5000s.
If you take more than one of the letters listed next to the SD40 then I guess you can come up with my favorite beast, the SDP40F.

The PA are on the Alco/GE list I made and I dint include the MK5000 because they were a totally new engine (no componets from other units) And would have to be classifyed under a list of MK built-new locomotives since they share no parts with EMD units (or GE or ALCO for that matter.. unless you include the modifyed Defco trucks)

Al, believe you are correct here. I seem to remember the PA-4 from somewhere.

The GN was the ones that rebuilt GP9s to GP5s, not the BN however the BN Relabled them to GP9ms (M=modified)
