    Model Power Refrigerator Rebuild

Russell: That is a beautiful paint job. Doesn't look like it was an easy one either.

Back in the old days, there I was...wishing for a steel reefer for my PFE reefer train as only wooden reefers were available for a long time. Just to show you how tough it was back then, the only steel "reefer" available was the Model Power plug door boxcar. It was a normal boxcar, roofwalk and everything, but they added an ice hatch on one side of the roof. I painted and decaled a few and have been running them ever since. The single reefer ice hatch has recently started bothering me. In N scale, we have so many nice steel reefers today that I was becoming embarrassed to see the odd-ball cars operating.

In this picture I am finally cutting down the roofwalks and scratchbuilding the other reefer ice hatch as I am too cheap to throw anything out. Finally. I have about eight of these to do. (You can see the Belmont Shore Lines logo on one of the cars. My own design.)

Here is a finished reefer with an original model in the back.

IIRC, Model Power did make these in the Tropicana Juice Train logo. We have come a long way in N scale. Thankfully.

I will lower the cars, too.

Thanks. It has been a favorite of mine since my old friend Irv, "The Katy Kid" had me paint some for him.
I am debating whether to paint the hand rails or leave them be.

My friend came over last night and took his train home. Here is one last shot I took of the front end. Now I can move onto other projects.

I have been working on this for a while, I will let the pictures and videos do the talking.

I have made some more, unphotographed progress on the Heisler. It now has a sand dome and steam dome, a ashpan, windows, doors, and I came up with a system to raise the input shaft to the gear tower to reduce the angle of attack on the driveshaft. This is like my other orginal climax' where it is one truck drive, this time the rear truck, the boiler is built around the motor, hince the steeper than normal angle on the wagon top boiler. As seen in one of the videos, the crank, connecting rods, crossheads, and universal joint all spin, and it is all hand built. since I was able to reduce the drive shaft angle, it runs a lot smoother.

Wow! I have seen some of your Climax models in person (Chehalis) and you are truly pushing N scale small logging steam forward. Nice work!

I saw them at the same show too! He bought about 4 or 5 MT skeletons off of me at that show. I was more amazed at the 2-6-2T Minarette that you had there than anything.

It could have been at a sugar factory in So Cal and got covered in lime dust. The Progress Rail B30 a few times was white like this, it was black with a white middle stripe.

I have been on structure frenzy as it has been way too hot to be outside.
The tower is a Kato kit and the houses are all Laser Art. I have to highly recommend the Laser Art kits. They go together easy and have a lot of detail. The Kato tower was just stucco’d and the roof was modified as well as interior painted and people installed to try and Americanize it.

Well , I finally got this project nearly completed. I need a rear light and firecracker antenna, but here it is. I had to cheat on the SF logo and it is to large but I have to live with it and I made the Amarillo decal for the boom.

I'm getting ready to move my bench, but I need to shorten it down to fit in the area. So, right now nothing is on mine! :)

Just removed the Wooden Deck Bridge from the workbench for a photo shoot. :)

There's still quite a bit to go. Adding tension rods/bolts/nails, shaping the terrain for it's insertion, and putting ME Bridge track over top. :)

Does anyone have a PCC shell lying around? Or maybe a broken PCC that they'd like to part with?
