woekbench nice ns high hood i did close to the same thing but i only used the hood part of the brass kit. i made a sd40,sd40-2 and a sd45. hereis a pic of the 45. i kept the cabs so i still can use the glass.
NS737 yours is the better way to go!! i just cut the brass cab off and i'm going to use the kato cab with just the brass high hood! good idea!!
high hood for the head light i removed the led and put a white led with long leads with a plasticstruct tube cut to length painted black so no light in the cab
More progress on Virginia & Truckee BoxCar 1005. All the side ribs are in place and the roof with roof walk are made. Still a long ways, but I'm loving how close it's getting!
Just finished the door and grab irons on one side. Just one more side to go and then its time for paint! Here is 1005 posing with Virginia & Truckee's "Empire" Once I get V&T 1011, 1013, & 1015 built to go with 1005, this is going to be one heck of a sweet looking train! Now I just need to find a Virginia & Truckee caboose prototype.
ATSF 5000 the "Madame Queen" still have lots of work to do as in redoing the cab and what now. I need a new 2 axle trailing truck from a berkshire if anyone has on floating around.
Thanks for the comments Chaya and John. I ran out of strips I use to space the bars on 1005. Until I can get some more to finish up the other side I began the next car on my list. Here's V&T #1011.
Very cool, Mark! How do you craft the underside where the truck pins go in? A block of styrene with a circle drilled out? Both cars look great! Love the angled supports 1/2 under the vertical ones. Rock on!
Mark, I love these scratch-built freight cars you're making. Nice work! I wonder if you could cast your car bases and build kits out of these to sell. It might be more work than it's worth, but it'd sure be cool.
Thanks Adam. I was wondering the same thing myself but with with the intention to push more cars in less time rather than create a kit. Actually, next I'm going to build a jig that should make assembling the frames and bars for 1005 much faster. Other than those bars, both of these cars are extreamly easy! Just cut the strip styrene and glue in place. Maybe I can create a template like I did for my buildings to share with everyone.
