Very nice. Simple plan, simple scenery, simple concept. This all adds up to an excellent layout in design and conception. Well done. Jim:tb-biggrin:
Cheers Jim. I'm still chipping away at this, but its heading into winter and the garage is getting cold. Here's the tunnel mouth. I think these colours could be toned down a bit, but I'm reasonably happy.
Back to work on this after a long break from modelling. I've started on the mountain scene. The colours are a bit more subdued than this and look very red due to my camera.
Good to see you at work again! Very much like the shape of your landforms. And know you'll do a fab job on this scene as you did the others. You might want to check out yr fellow Kiwi Hobbes1310's layout progress on NScale.Net. Guess he's a bit north of you (in Auckland), but his layout has a lot of long arid scenes like you're doing (he's doing free-lance California / West) and I'd bet a lot of techniques overlap. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you do with the scene!
Hi Grant, ex Cantabrian here, love what you've done. What're you using for your rocks? They're very impressive. Planning to make a mountainous scene for my next MMW module so any local tips appreciated. For ballasting, I use 50% IPA (got my IPA from the Cleaners Warehouse in chch) and a fine mister bottle from the same place. You could also check TradeMe for atomisers. cheers, Michael (now in Masterton)
WOW! Wonderful scenery there Grant! I love the formation of the rocks, the color, gravel and the ground cover, and they way they perfectly blend! I wish I had your talent in making such wonderful scenery!
Cheers all! Michael, the rocks are carved form lightweight hydrocal and plaster. The hydrocal gives a better result because it is easier to carve, but it is expensive so most of this is just plaster. It's coloured using various acrylic washes. Here is some more progress on the mountain scene. The track is ballasted and I've added a bit of static grass. Reasonably happy, but it is all still one big learning experience. Grant
Wow this is a really nice layout I just went through the entire thread staring at the pictures. I love the curves and the benchwork design is outstanding. I think you really have a eye for land contours. I also love how the track gets lost in the scenery, in fact it gets so lost that I didn't even notice the code 80 track at first. Are you sure you aren't Mike Danneman with another screen name?
Grant, I have to echo a reply, I think, from earlier in this thread. But... Spectacular scenery that happens to have a train running through it. Any plans on showing the layout publicly? Any train shows in your area?
