    Hello,

I am hoping you can help me locate a part. Specifically the small cover plate from the underframe of the N-scale Kato Dome-Lounge-Observation #9003 included in the original UP City of Los Angeles set. The number 15693 is molded into the cover plate. I can provide pictures if that would be helpful.

I have already spoken to folks at Kato USA. They were unable to help me. Perhaps you have, or know of someone who has, leftover parts from a modeling project using the Observation. Not wishing on someone else’s bad luck, but perhaps one was involved in an accident and the cover plate survived. In any case, I would appreciate any help you can provide.

I have been gathering the cars needed to assemble a City of Portland consist circa 1955. I acquired the 9003, with a few other cars, from a modeler who said his small children had played with it resulting in the missing cover plate. I can assemble a replacement part from underbody details, but would like the functional advantage of the original part.

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I have been accumulating individual City cars myself, some from Kato parts, others at swap meets. I have several from the set including the Observation car #9003. My modeling interests have moved away from the UP at the current time.

I'm not sure what you are referring at as the "cover plate." Do you mean the cover over the rear coupler? Can you post a picture of what is missing? I'll check my car to see if mine is intact.

Not interested in parting out the car, but I'd be happy to sell it to at a reasonable price.

    Let me know,

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for the reply! I can tell you that if you look at the underside of your car and nothing is missing, the cover plate is in place. It leaves a notable gap when not in place. You have prompted me to learn how to post a couple pictures so I will do that to help clarify what I am after.

Thanks for offering to sell me yours. I may take you up on that.

    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hey Mark,

My car is intact. That's a strange piece, never have seen that on the bottom of an N scale passenger car. Didn't even notice until i saw the pictures you posted. Interesting way to add more undercarriage details.

How about $15 for the car and $5 for shipping(depending on your location from CO) ? I have a generic Kato box for it.

Or, do you have anything to trade? I'd be interested in the Centralia Shops/Intermountain DRGW Prospector coach or MP sleeper. I am accumulating cars to model the Rio Grande and connecting passenger trains in Denver mid 1960s.

What I am really looking for are the older ATLAS RSD 4/5 in the Utah Railway scheme.

    Let me know.

    Mark
