Anybody interested in N scale aircraft might be interested in the exhibition layout "Yesterday's Air Force" built by the South Australian N Gauge Society. It incorporates over 100 model aircraft of "approximately N" in scale, ranging from 1:144 to 1:200.

    Yesterday's Air Force gallery

Some of the aircraft have free spinning props which can be made to turn by switching on hidden 12V computer fans.

    Cheers
    David

    Greetings,

I purchased a couple from here:
    http://www.ralphiesrails.com/servlet/StoreFront

The guy seems really in to modeling, he has several videos.

I look forward to receiving my model planes. I also found a couple of other toys there. <G>

Gotta love it when you find something totally new, 1/200 scale aircraft can be found here:
    1/200 Scale Aircraft
Smaller scale could help if trying to create perspective. Click on some of the links, there are Presier 1/200 people to, hmm never knew that!

When you say "N-scale airplane," is there a specific kind you are looking for? I have searched for years for any kind of civil or private aircraft that could possibly be used for N-scale. The previous posts cover pretty much what I've found, however there are a few more of the 1/144 models to choose from. Check out the selection at this site: AIRALEX 1/144 KITS FOR SALE. There used to be an N-scale manufacturer that produced helicopter kits, Tiger Scale Models, but when I checked the website today, it was gone. I have scratchbuilt a few small planes for my airport and am considering the feasibility of making a kit or two for the rest of aircraft-hungry N-scalers out there if I can be assured that there are enough potential buyers out there.

Did you try this link http://www.tigerscalemodels.com/bell.html
My photo of the MASH Bell helicopter N scale above. I just went to the web site and there is newer modern stuff as well. Update: a few precious moments later...I can get to the website home but not the store. There is information on contacting but no email or phone. Sorry...it seemed so simple. The product is very detailed and was looking forward to getting one other...hopeing that they would do one of the sky cranes they use for logging/forest fire work here in Oregon.

Beleive it or not, N-Scale is becoming quite popular as a wargaming scale, particularly for Civil War, WW2 and futuristic gamers. They're hard to find, but if you know the manufacturers, you can find a much wider range of vehicles, including aircraft:

Here's the only manufacturer I know of that has true modern/historical N-Scale aircraft:
http://www.minifigs.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=41_2_42_26 They have WW2 fighters and if you look around the site, they also have Vietnam era helicopters.

Reaper Miniatures makes a line of futuristic vehicles including tanks and aircraft in N-Scale as well:
    http://www.reapermini.com/gallery/cav?page=7

Not N-Scale, but this company makes a line of 1/144th WW2 aircraft:
    http://www.truenorthminis.com/store/index.php?ccUser=&catId=2&act=viewCat

Not related to aircraft, but there are at least a half dozen more game manufacturers of both modern and WW2 tanks/vehicles.

Don't forget the Aurora 1/156 747 series. They were plastic kits made in the early 70's. You can still find them on eBay from time to time.

To my knowledge, Herpa has only made one 1/160 scale aircraft, a German WW2 JU52 transport plane. Not too common here in the states. Nice model, but you would expect that by the price you have to pay to own one.

I found one at a hobby shop for $8.50. It's a 737-200 KIT made by Revell. Who knows how long its been since it has been made. It's a 1:200 kit.

OTOH, I was at a Hobby shop today that has a LARGE assortment of models, military and civilian, and there are a lot of 1:144 kits for commercial aircraft available.

    Hey Jimmo,

Surely you could do OK with a few n scale planes.

Personally I look for civilian related prop aircraft. The jets and military high end stuff are cool to look at but don't seem practiical for a small n scale layout. I now have 4 or 5 aircraft but not all are exactly right for the layout. Hummm, maybe some mods. <G>

Anyway, agri related like crop dusters, but single wing and bi-planes. Sopwith camel would surely always be welcome.

But this is all just my opinion.

Most of us don't have the model real estate for a major airport on our layouts. If you are like me, just a piece of a small airport is about all you really have room for and even that is pushing it. Sure, there are a lot of jet and some larger prop airliners available in 1/144 scale plastic, but if you want smaller, twin-engined passenger planes you have to start looking into resin and vacu-form kits which require a higher level of skill to get 'em together. From what I've seen, not many of you are willing to commit to "aircraft modeling" in order to have a couple of small planes sitting on patch of asphalt somewhere in view of your passing train. I think what we all are in need of are a series of small, single engined civilian aircraft that are easy to assemble and finish. For some odd reason, every manufacturer of model aircraft only seems to only concentrate on military aircraft. It's as if there's a never-ending demand for the same planes. For example, I can't even count how many 1/144 scale P51 Mustangs there are out there.

A friend of mine and I are currently seaching the internet and ebay for anything usable in N-scale--models, toys, jewelry, you name it--if it's close to 1/160, it's fair game. I hope to do an article soon on our findings. I'm also considering producing some kits if I get enough positive response. Jimmo

I've been looking for a Huey Helicopter (UH-1) to model this - it's a Kern County Fire unit that is based at the station at Rowen, alongside the Tehachapi mainline:

Since this is/was such a popular helicopter, I would have thought it would have been available, at least in 1:144 (which I would settle for), but no luck so far in my searching.

Sweet! Thanks for the links guys! Do you know if the minifigs UH-1H model comes with side doors? The picture shows no door with a gunner manning the rail...

Hey Dave, here's the 1/210 scale Huey I mentioned earlier, it comes in a snap-together kit. No clear parts. The rotor spins freely and can be easily powered from underneath because the rotor shaft extends to the bottom of the fuselage. They are quite rare. About the only place you can find them is on ebay, but they are getting scarce. I have a few of them, so I might be persuaded to let one go. Let me know if you're interested.

    1/144 Resin CH-46 copies

I was cruising the internet looking for 1/144th scale CH-46s to use as christmas ornaments and I think you're the only person making them right now. They're for my squadron as I am a phrog pilot at Camp Pendleton. If your molds are good, i'd be happy to pay you per copy and shipping if you'd make some for me! My email is bladespinn@yahoo.com.

    Thanks a lot

    Dave
