Monte Vista, CO, on the old abandoned South Fork branch to Creede: It is parked behind the main drag (US 160) behind some buildings in downtown proper. Anyone know who owned/owns it? What its lineage is? The smokebox door looks like it says '186' or '486' or something.
Hemi......do you know if anyone is restoring it. Looks like there is. Boilder and front end looks real, real good from what i can tell. I hope the cabe and all the parts are nearly, she looks like a runner. With the high drivers and all...looks like she was a passenger/fast freight locomotive.
Here is some history about the engine. FEC 148 is a 4-6-2 light "Pacific" steam engine built by Alco. Apparently according to reports is that it has had major work done on it in Traverse City and will not take a whole lot more work to make it run, but who knows if that is accurate or not. FEC (Florida East Coast) #148 was transported on two flat cars from Traverse City, Michigan. Check this site: http://www.cumbrestoltecshops.com/SHOPS2005/shops2005updates/march4week/ click on 'march4week.htm' index entry for story on rebuild. ..Eddie
wow, I forgot about this little one. Exact same type as our little jewl, the OR&N 197 Pacific that we are restoring. It was the last engine to leave the oaks park rest site. Cool. I was about to suggest it to be an Ex OR&N Steamer, oh well.
I thought a historical group had taken over that branch line? So it's not abandoned? Name was something like Denver & Rio Grande Historical Society??? Boxcab E50
