My first "adult" layout was tacked to an old salvaged hollow core door propped up by saw horses. Course, occupying one of the bedrooms did cause a bit of friction till it moved to the basement.

You are on your way! That hollow core door is a great idea. Here are few images of a 4' X8' MRR I built for my great nephews and niece. Just a thought. the thing about model RRing is it involves so many different skills, woodworking, engineering, electrical and so on, and always learning something, or at least I do :):).
This first image shows the construction of the outfit that would go flush with the wall. The bracing serves as storage for cars buildings and such.
The inside hole was there for access and servicing.

This image shows what it would look like from the the room, folded away.

Here it is folded down and in operation, as you can see little Dade can hardly stand it.

I Think this is a good way to have a MRR when you want and you can fold it up, and it does not take up too much space.

Anyway just a thought for you to consider.
    Please carry on.:)

Most manufacturers try to ensure that their products are delivered with wheels in gauge but they can sometimes be out of alignment, This tool, available at many hobby shops, can help you check.

Note though that not all wheels/axles are adjustable (on many locos, a bit of gentle pressure while twisting will move wheels in an out accordingly). Some cars come with solid axle and wheel combo. Check your rolling stock if derails are a problem. Check switches and track with the abovementioned gauge as well.

I see HO track Atlas is this a better track to use ?

OH found the problem with my Walters loco when it hits the turn out it bumps both sides does not follow the new direction...

So I don't know if I push it through is works fine

Atlas track (and their switches) have been around for decades and is considered reliable and convenient, however, there are many other brands and types depending on your individual needs and/or desires.

Without seeing your problem firsthand, I can't give you a definite answer, but is sounds as though your switch might not be completely seating on one or both routes, causing the wheels to "pick the points".

    This link may help.

On the turnout or switch the loco just drives over the rail this only happens with the walters loco not my Bachmann loco I am thinking maybe the walters is just to heavy .. before I go to far I thought I might look at switching to a different track system

Most locos and rolling stock sold in the US use wheels that conform to the NMRA RP-25.

    https://www.nmra.org/sites/default/files/standards/sandrp/pdf/RP-25 2009.07.pdf

Without going into all the technobabble, the RP tries to assure that the wheel contour and the flange depths work reliably on most track sold in the US (at least). If the flanges are too deep, they may catch on the track, but a vendor like Walthers usually has quality control in place.

I would still check that the loco's wheels are in gauge.

Will do.. It pops over the switch or cuts through and try's to go straight if I push the train with a finger toward the direction it needs to go it works so that would be it.my loco has the wrong wheels for the track .

Since the track itself is molded to a specific width, you can do what I do and use a piece of track to measure your wheels. I just turn my loco over and then use a short piece of track to see how the wheels sit in the track.

If it is switches that cause you problems, then use a switch. I had similar problems with an N scale loco. Running the trucks through the switch, while upside down, revealed that the wheels were spaced too far apart and thus they would climb the rails of switches.

When I used an N scale NMRA gauge, everything looked like it was in spec. Only the track itself was able to reveal this issue for me.

The tolerances for HO scale are much looser than smaller scales. If you are using commercial products a piece of track works perfectly well as a wheel gauge.

Yea its sound silly but when on the track my Bachmann loco has more side to side wiggle room then my walters loco...I will call around to hobby Shops and see if there is a fix
