You know what. I thought very hard about this. And I think it would be a Great idea for the BNSF to come out with a fleet of Heritage units. Frisco,Great Northern,Colorado & Southern,SP&S,Burlington Northern,Santa Fe,Northern Pacific,(CB&Q)Burlington, and so fourth. I am sure that the BNSF doesn't care but we Railfans do. Look what the Union Pacific did. They came out with 6 Heritage units, plus the UP 4141. And they all look Great. But anyways. What do you Guys/Gals think?

I would enjoy seeing this happen. If the paint schemes were exact (historic) recreations of those predecessors. That, is real heritage.

The H1 scheme already is a GN Heritage scheme so fooey on them. (which is why it chaps my hide that Krebs and Rose claim "Forging a new identity" as why they dumped the astronomically more well known warbonnet.)

Further thought- There is a lot possible.

Each of the major predecessors had 2-3 well known, widely recognized schemes. NP had Loewy passenger colors, and before that, was "Butterknife." In freight, they had Pine Tree, then the final black/yellow, in both "Canoe" and simplified.

GN had their EB in at least a couple of styles, followed by BSB colors.

SP&S had two well known diesel paints.

CB&Q had their solid grays(?), and stainless. Plus the black/gray, then Chinese Red.

    Hmmm....

Something in a Blue Bonnet would be nice.

The probelm with BNSF is to much herritage. I hear a lot of Santa Fe fans say they should have kept the warbonnet as it is more widely know, but only half of the RR is former Santa Fe, and the other half is made up of 5 biggies (BN/NP/GN/CB&Q/SLSF) and some smaller ones (SP&S/CS/FW&D). In my opion they need to come up with something completly new and a better name would help to. There is a editorial in a recent trains that discuss this same subject. As for some real herritage units that would be cool, I would love to have a NP painted loco on the point headed to pasco.

Hmm......an SD70ACe in Frisco passenger livery........sure beats black w/yellow stripes or the O/W scheme. Classier, too. Or maybe even a Burlington (CB&Q, not Bad News) in the black & grey.

But as far as "heritage" paint schemes go, there are still lots of former ATSF and BN units with the colors of the previous roads running around. And those Warbonnet colors are beginning to look really ratty, which is not how I like to see that particular scheme (looks cool on an F-unit, crappy on a freight motor).

It still looks great on the GP60Ms when I see them. And EMD seemed to have a better paint mix then GE, either that, or the shops are taking better care of them.
That Trains editorial was more interesting to me, because of what the Head of CSX said (That the name CSX was a stupid idea and they should have chosen Chessie or Seaboard and just gone with it) also, the Great Western Scheme they came up with is uninspired and boring.

As for too much Heritage, BN already did away with all those great roads, so that heritage is dead and Gone. Santa Fe had 100+ years of history behind that specific name. And of course, UP never fails to wipe out as much of their aquisitions uniqueness as they can, so it's not without precedence.

To be fair though, I miss the Warbonnet, I think it's a better scheme, but I could understand their logic in changing it to create a new identity, my disgruntlment is that they didn't created a new identity, they created Empire Builder v2.

I agree- on whatever GP60Ms that pass thru here (mostly on locals, switchers and rock trains), the Super Fleet colors hold up much better. My "ratty" comment was referring to the GEs painted in this livery.

Now that BNSF has three different versions of their scheme (the first one looking for all the world like the Great Northern revived, which ain't a bad thing), two ATSF schemes, and three BN color jobs, it looks more like the 21st century version of the Lehigh Valley. And I haven't even mentioned the rent-a-wrecks.

Wonder what a Big Ace (SD70ACe) would look like in Super Fleet livery....... hmmm.......

I haven't seen one of those, but someone painted an SD80/90MAC in red and silver. That was on this site, wasn't it?

Having spent my entire life up along areas where the Goat once ran, when a BNSF :tb-wacky: scheme wanders past, I don't even begin to think of pre-GN BSB days.

There are still a number of Santa Fe Locomotives running around. The reason that the UP did what they did was that the modeling companies Lionel and others were wanting to use the predicessors and a judge said that unless the UP was using those schemes they could not charge royalties. So that is when the six units were painted. Did the BNSF sue like the UP?

Yeah, BNSF hasn't put repainting at a very high priority. Which is good for us fans. Now if only they'd get the Aces and others out by me so I can see something not built by GE.

As for the H1 scheme being a GN heritage scheme.
Seriously, When combined with what management said at the time of the merger, it's an insult. This is CLEARLY a GN scheme with the Santa Fe cross replacing the goat as the only nod to the rest of the system.
