Very nice work! Very realistic weathering and Graffiti. If you set up a diorama outside , I would bet that you could fool many people. Is the graffiti decals or are you using paint pens ? Craig
Craig, thank you! All my graffitti so far has been decals, I am still building up the courage to try pens. I am getting ready to build a photo module for use outside, we'll see how it comes out! my best, Jan
Sweet Jan, I really love the railbox.Hey I am sending you all of my engines and rolling stock for you to patch and weather so call me when I can pick them up.LOL
Here's some more weathered locos that have shown up in Binghamton recently. You probably don't need any more projects, but you seem to favor scruffy looking diesels.
Hey Tom, I'll call when they're ready, yup send em' this way, I'll call:tb-wink::tb-biggrin: Thanks guys, and David, sweeeeet material, 7310 looks like a good candidate..... and yeah, I like em' real nasty! my best, Jan
Looking great Jan! I really like the modern fleet you're building up. What did you use for decals on the NOKL well car? Best, Gary
Thanks Gary, the decals are from 2 sets: the majority are from Microscale 60-741 Greenbriar Hsky-stacks, and the NOKL lettering and numbers come from an HO NOKL set, Microscale MC-4335 coal gondolas. The NOKL lettering and numbers from the HO set are almost the same size as the "Husky stack" lettering in the Greenbriar set and are white, perfect. The only thing missing is the small NOKL lettering and road numbers that would be under the center of the car reinforcement. Still working on the right mix of weathering but using your transparent acrylic technique with an orange mix right now. (thanks for that tip) my best, Jan
Well Jan after looking at your stuff I finally got mine to the workbench and tried some weathering myself. Here are a couple of shots of the AC4400CW's and am working on some SD90's you can see in the background. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice work Tbone, I haven't got up the nerve to attempt to weather my locos, although I have added details such as grab handles and cut levers. If I may make a suggestion, #9502 just needs the 'RCMP Musical Ride' logo on both sides of the nose as the finishing touch. It's on the Microscale AC4400 CP Rail sheet. I've added it to my #9502 and it looks great - unfortunately all my rolling stock is in storage as I'm moving house next week.
Tom, those look great! If you have any powders or chalk, hit all the grates and vents with some black, same on the roof behind that exhaust stack. Than, because they are running in Tennessee, a long trip south of home, hit them trucks and tanks with a bunch of layers of dust, dirt and earth:tb-wink: excellent work so far! The fade coat looks very good. You may want to chip off some of your dual flags scheme, that scheme tends to chip more for some reason, you can use a pencil eraser, brite boy or small little pricks of SOO Line red on it: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hozchunb8OtQZg1BdgHZbg?feat=directlink always a pleasure to see your posts, my best, Jan
Hey thanks for the info guys I am gonna have to try that.I think we need to start a "CP Moment " thread.LOL
Here is the NOKL 48' Husky Stack I just finished, N Scale Kits kit, microtrains couplers, fox valley wheels, microscale decals: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...?authkey=Gv1sRgCLbQgO3Pi6rrCA&feat=directlink 2nd one is not done yet, almost! my best, Jan
Good to see what you've been up to Jan -- the Husky looks great. Do you have any problems with the corner stirrups & hand grab posts popping off? I've had 2 do so already and I can't quite picture a way to attach them more soundly than the simple flush glue joint. Am I missing something? Otherwise these are very nice kits. Cheers, Gary
Gary, indeed the grabs on the wellcars have to be handled VERY carefully, same with all the wells I re-did with Gold Medal models etched grabs. Coming back from last year's FEC convention I suffered a bunch of GMM etched grabs breaking or bending. The only solution that has worked for me is carrying my wells in the Deluxe innovations storage boxes (which are no longer available). But other than rough handling I have not had problems with them popping off. always a pleasure to hear from you! my best, Jan
Lately I have been putting the finishing touches on a "photo module" as I was forced to put the modular layout in storage until "special weekends" this is a module representing winter on the northern end of my CP D&H division, its nearly done but already serving its photo purpose! gotta finish up some backdrops, otherwise, its done! my best, Jan
Jan once again you amaze me.Please describe the mini-module especially the brown kudzu under the snow.AWESOME!!!:thumbs_up:
Mucho thanks guys! This is the one where I used every trick I have learned by prior mistakes!! I started with HO piece of cork for trackbed, than a slice of n scale cork on top of that. I plastered on some sculptamold on the rear to form the hill at the rear. I used a scenic express wild moorland late autumn grass matt that I ripped and glued into the arrangement I wanted it in based off a photo I had pulled from Railpace magazine of a Vermont Railways train in winter. After glueing the matt sections down I spray painted them from a bit of distance with a khaki/railtie brown pair of rattle cans. I sprinkled on woodland scenics freshly fallen snow and brushed it around on the grass with my fingers roughly before spraying alcohol and than a matte medium mix. I glued the track on with liquid nails after spray painting it railbrown. I than added snow to the track and gap areas and glued it down in the same fashion. I used scenic express super trees with no foiliage attached to them that I sprayed railbrown and a touch of khaki. I drilled holes and glued them in around the moorlands. I used several JTT hemlock trees, some assorted other pines, filled in some snow gaps, and here I am. thanks again, my best, Jan
