this is an old undec front range acf grain car.

Dug up some kadee 100 ton trucks which I had to modify the mounting hole by enlarging it so it fit the nubs on the car.

Story behind this car is the TCC like a lot of Eastern roads in the early mid 70's had financial issues.

The TCC was no different and was forced to sell off some of it's equipment to pay bills.

The WVM West Virginia Midland (real defunct railroad) but alternate history on my part the WVM bought a 35 car group from the ailing Turtle Creek Central in their 1000-1099 series.

Some cars are grey, red, or mineral brown.

As to the trucks i was filing the holes bigger and the black coating came off from my hands.

So I decided to lightly sand the treads of the wheels and they polished up fairly decently.

This car will get a # patch, weathering, & dent damage with rusting.

Excuse the pictures I set them for correct orientation and they still go their own way.

Best i can do with my phone sorry.

Last update for the night took some 0.010 phosphor bronze wire taped off a vertical line then gently scribed a groove for the wire.

This will represent a weld seam as the car has none.

Just a dozen +/- to do basing it off a proto car similar to this one.

    One side done yay.

Looks like a great project. I also like mixing protolance stuff in. Makes for interesting rolling stock.

Those weld beads look solid. I built a Quality Craft 86 foot boxcar kit, which uses that same technique, but the wire supplied was too large of a gauge and it looked more like a ribbed side car instead of a welded one. They repeated every 2 scale feet or so, so it took forever to scribe them all. How much detailing are you going to do on the car?

Not to much more detailing might add a decent roofwalk and supports from Plano.

Building this car as a runner still a couple of surprises on it that are coming towards the end of the build.

Uuuuuuuuugh remember those wood kits never could get it to represent steel lol.

Slow but still made a little progress on the horrid roofwalk nipped it off just sanded the old end piece's off.

Nipped all the old running board supports off the roof walk is almost just a strip of styrene with mounts.

Will be ordering a Plano roofwalk kit that includes the etched walk the and mounts bout as far as i'll take the car.

As stated earlier it's going to be a runner on a club layout 40 miles away from me.

And the mp15dc is another project down the list.

And modified the end cages to add Plano etched crossover walkways to each end.

Will be replacing the kit brake chain with actual 40 links per inch Campbell chain.

Here are the 3 pics showing the mods to the walk.

Pretty much all that is left is removing the rest of the roof walk mounts then waiting till i can order the Plano roofwalk.

Then i can start thinking about painting this car looking forward to it

Man this car is becoming a PITA.

Added the lift tabs no big deal then went to sand down the roofwalk supports after cutting them off.

And now need to wait till payday to get some red bond spot putty as there's a bunch of divots on the roof now.

    Uuuuuuuuugh.

    Will be updating next week.

So an Error on my part with my custom decals coming this hopper will still be an EX-TCC car but not for the West Virginia Midland instead it'll be for the Wichita Northwestern WNW.

I'll also be posting all my car builds here so they are in one place.

Here's a teaser of a pair of details west cars a single door that will become a WNW FGE car painted in tru-color NP yellow.

And a double door DW car in tru-color boxcar brown almost a perfect match for SP/SSW brown that'll become part of the WNW lumber fleet.

So will be getting onto this as i have to wait till I can get the funds to get a new Paasche airbrush tip next month.

    Till then enjoy

I well understand Vince. I can’t see things in N well enough anymore to enjoy, so I stick to HO. We go with what we can!

Okay so as I get back into ho scale.

I got the weathering bug going will have to take photos outside as the camera flash on my phone washes out a lot if the weathering.

Loosely weathered off the prototype as there's not many pics of this car in my modeling era.

It's the athearn UP 74444 bicentennial covered hopper built in 1974 I model fall 1979.

So this is the beginning progress pics don't laugh to hard.

Wheels, trucks and both sides of the car, over weathered the one wheel set it has been toned down.

Nothing to laugh at Vince! Maybe do some light color on the hopper bottoms to dirty them up.
