Gee, just when we are feeling starved for steam operations, being hammered by high insurance costs, now we have two events scheduled at the same time. I learned from Martin Hansen that he has set up another steam special at the Mt. Rainier Scenic RR, Elbe and Mineral, WA, for the weekend of June 28-29. Details are on the Mt. Rainier site at
    MT. RAINIER SCENIC
MRSR Porter 2-8-2 No. 5, 2-8-2T No. 17, and Climax No. 10 will all operate. What a dilemna, with 4449 and 700 operating in Portland on the same two days!! :(

Definitely a dilemma, but I wish I was close enough to be able to make the choice of which to see

Edit: BTW, that steam whistle surprised me when I went to the site  :D

Some day I hope we'll see two engines back under steam. One is the Rayonier 70. I knew the fellow who owned it. Rode it many years ago when it was in the museum.

The other is the 45. My grandfather fired on her looooong ago. Way back when it was under the Polson Brothers banner. A couple of years before he passed away, we drove to the park where it was once on display. It was interesting to listen to him talk about the loco and those bygone days. I was watching his body language. And could see the memories were very strong.

    :D

Jim .. you can have a little of each! The Mt. Rainier Scenic's #17 has a home made whistle that sounds just like 4449's! That's one of the railroads that Karla and I rode while on our honeymoon.

The track is rough and the locos ride every bump ... but you will enjoy it if you go. [IMG]
