What's the price of a few details these days? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cornerstone-N-Scale-Union-Crane-and-Shovel-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed-/132353884247?hash=item1ed0e80057:g:AekAAOSwLApZ169i https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cornerstone-N-Scale-George-Roberts-Printing-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed/132352746509?hash=item1ed0d6a40d:g:mokAAOSwxu1Z1mXc https://www.ebay.com/itm/Walthers-N-Scale-Valley-Growers-Elevator-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed/131745268160?hash=item1eaca141c0:g:l7cAAOSwAuNW3KKC https://www.ebay.com/itm/Woodland-Scenics-N-Scale-Kitt-Transfer-Station-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed-/132341934978?hash=item1ed031ab82:g:Y9sAAOSw1VJZyVAY https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cornerstone-N-Scale-Northern-Light-Power-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed-/132351979296?hash=item1ed0caef20:g:dOgAAOSw8YZZ1X2u Being Custom Built, Weathered, Detailed sure drives up the price of a single building. This is probably the most outrageous one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cornerstone-N-Scale-Yard-Office-with-Shed-Custom-Built-Weathered-Detailed/132355259815?hash=item1ed0fcfda7:g:h1wAAOSwgiRZ2Q~C
I like that the "custom" features include adding a WS figure and leaving one of the doors open. I suppose one should offer kit building services!
Hey, he sprayed grey paint on them as well. While I'm not going to buy them I've actually seen much worse offered for much more (although the room seam on the Northern Light building is rather large). I suspect that they won't be sold any time soon.
Someone's pretty proud of their work. I wish them luck. But frankly, I would be surprised these days if someone, somewhere, didn't buy them. I need to re-think my retirement plans.
You can ASK any amount you want. In the end, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it...
Look! It's VERY RARE...and $200 https://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-...157412?hash=item59005c9764:g:idMAAOSw9idZ7JyJ

Just can't understand why people put stuff on E/B jack the price way up, they know it won't sell!! Don
I think it's a combination of mainly two forces. Everyone wants to sell as high as possible and there are some really high prices paid for certain items. I think sellers hope to cash in on that exact item or one they just hope will sell for a high price. The other force is actually the lack of. It doesn't cost anything to list on ebay. In older times, there was a listing fee. If you listed something and it didn't sell, it cost you money. There was at least some economic pressure to help sellers list at a price that it's likely to sell. I could list and relist a car every 30 days for $1,000 and it wouldn't cost me anything. This is one way that ebay has inflated their number of items listed at any one time. The N scale category has 110,000 Buy It Now items and 6,000 auction items.
And people wonder why so many people hate and or laugh at evilbay. While not hobby related, there was a guy in Canada, not long ago, who was selling rocks he picked up from his yard. He was basically taking the mick out of evilbay and people in general. Only wanted $10 bucks a rock and, believe it or not, he actually sold a few, apparently. Bottom line for me is simple, I will never NEVER buy anything from evilbay.
I've sold over 100 items on eBay over the years and have been blessed with good transactions. I've pulled the plug on only two potential sales when Bidders were angry or insulting and I did this prior to the sale closing out, so all was well. My wife and I have also purchased several dozen (new) items on eBay without a problem. I completely agree with the posts above regarding inflated pricing and poor descriptions. It makes searching eBay a tiresome bore.
Well, I can say that I am very happy with the things I picked up from the site, so I've ordered some detail parts for my first ever armor build.
I've sold hundreds of items there as well (but nothing recently...too much work). Old pricing guides don't help since prices tanked in the late 2000's but sellers think if it was worth X then, it must be worth more now. Postings that never sell for over inflated prices hurt too. Back when I used to watch that 'reality' pawn shop show had people coming in saying something was worth so much online only to have them ask 'but how much has that item actually SOLD for recently'. Since it doesn't cost anything for listers to play the lottery, they play the lottery. Sell one item for a stupid price and they win!
