Check out the buy it now price... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-HO-g...=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5b0109b28c
I have to confess that I don't know the relative quality of Lima locomotives and I don't know the current exchange rate, is 14 pounds excessive for that model?
Be careful here, you can get stung. Lima is from some of the older stuff still floating around. Manufactured in Europe, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. No longer in business which means parts will be at a premium. Much of their very early stuff should of been trash canned along time ago. Not necessarily a jewel in the rough. In my not so humble opinion, you'd be better off buying the newer stuff. Still if you can't live without it or you figure you can put a Kato chassis in it. Just remember you are taking a chance and is the price worth it to you?:startled:
Well Rick, it seems the auction went up with a Typo. I don't care if it was gold plated with a Swiss watch mech. 1400 pounds sterling is a bit much. Now 14. Or I thing about $25. That's not too bad. It appears to be a decent looking shell.
ha ha I actually really like european stuff and lima is one of the brands one can purchase cheaply. I agree it's toy train quality, but I like tinkering with them. I wish the locos sold at the proper price, but due to the fact that certain nations rail lines aren't modeled by other companies, the locos still run too high priced.
OK. This isn't exactly straight HO, it is HOn30. However, it still leaves me baffled, as the exact same book is still available new from the publisher for $23.95.
Sure it maybe be a nice chunk of change, but at least they all come with Kadee Couplers (theoretically) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Vin...760401?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19ef2b14d1
"IF" indeed those were all Kadees. A close look and many appear to have a Kadee style coupler. Could be Bachmann, McHenry, or? Some definitely do not have KD. Note those which have a pin below the front edge of the knuckle itself. I can't think of brand right now. Some the trip pins have been modified, which leaves a person wondering why...
Actually, if I were doing a 50s-style layout, the price for all of these isn't half-bad. Actually one of the better deals on eBay, IMO. I agree, though, the couplers look questionable, but I have a habit of re-couplering (if needed) and re-wheeling (plastic for metal) new additions to the fleet as needed. Plus, most of the cars look to have body-mount couplers, so there you go.
Looks like the coupler pins were cut off and replaced with more prototypical ones mounted on the car. Probably a good price, but I don't need more boxcars... only hoppers Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
Cutting the trip pins happens often enough with Kadees. If you aren't using the uncoupling magnets it doesn't matter at all.
Yup. I've done it in both HO and N scales. Doing the same with my HOn30. But I remove an entire pin, back to the knuckle. I like walking around and doing actual switching work. Just wondering why they'd only be partly cut, and part remaining. I still cannot think of who it is that manufactures theirs using a pin extending down from the front of their knuckle. As I recall, it is plastic and molded as part of the knuckle. Look closely and you'll see what I am pointing out.
I did see that and I can't remember the manufacturer either. Cutting off only part of the pin is the normal way that I see it done. It is silly, but typical.
Shipping typo ($2.50)? He should be glad that there wasn’t a similar typo on the price ($5999.00)! Bob http://www.ebay.com/itm/Overland-HO...632940?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2c87aa19ec
What is with the phone screen grabs? Surely if he is expecting you to fork out that much money he would provide good quality photos
Other than the fact the pins dropping from the knuckle seem to have a kink in the end, early KD's were that way. There are folks looking for those to match what they have. Not magnetic, used an in-track dual spring wire like X2F's, only backwards, if I recall. Dave
