The service will run along 62 kilometers (approximately 39 miles) of existing freight track and offer 27 stations through the cities of Apostaca, San Nicolás de los Garza, Monterrey, San Pedro Garza García, Santa Catarina and García. The fieldwork portion of the SENER contract includes a geometric and topographic survey; a hydrological study; identification and evaluation of preparatory work; and geological and geotechnical studies of the main line and highway/rail grade crossings, as well as environmental feasibility study work. Preliminary project work includes a general project description and engineering for passenger and freight service. Commuter trains are expected to operate at 40-50 kph (about 25-31 mph) and carry 170-200 riders per car. The service is slated to handle 250,000 riders per day.
