Great progress. Love the weathering on the truss bridge.

Had a small order come in that will help immensely. A couple bundles of Woodland Scenics sub-roadbed in the form of 1/2" risers. I can now start to lay track down.

I also recieved a few other items... Amtrak 145, a baggage car and coach. Starting to piece together the Carolinian which I havve decided deserves a place on my layout as I have seen her lately. Photo included that I took Sunday.

Nice picture. Is that the Auto Train on the other track? I don't know of any other train/railroad that has silver autoracks...

Looking forward to seeing your train come together. What is a typical consist?

That is indeed the Auto Train. The Carolinian consists of 1 P42, 1 Baggage Car, 1 Business class, 1 Cafe car and typically anywhere between 2-6 coaches. I will porbably run it with the baggage, coach (as business), coach/cafe (beacuase that's all Kato has in Phase VIb, and two more coaches.

Been a whole since I've updated. I made some headway this weekend. Risers are completely installed as well as cork for the outer track. I will now start to lay track. I will do the inner loop after the outer is laid. I had to make sacrifices and my diverging route on the top of the layout was nixed.

Another quick update. Added flex track to the outer loop. Just need the inner loop. Track work is about 65% complete prior to upcoming vacation Friday. Excuse the mess in the table. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375660342.306761.jpg

Great to see you moving along. How long do you think it will be till track work is complete?

Probably be the end of August since ill be in vacation for the most of the month. Only regret is I don't have more Atlas flex track. It's so much easier to work with than the ME flex.

Always! In all my trips to FL, I've only seen an FEC unit once. Would like to catch some.

Last update before vacation. More track has been laid. Inner and outer loops are connected (with appropriate gaps for dcc) to turnouts. One gap might be a little too big and needs filling. Note for next layout... No ME flex. I will never use it again. Track work is now about 85% done.

Sean has seen these already, but new power is coming to the Monocacy Sub in the very near future...

Brian, I appreciate your updates. Reading them reminds me how much I miss riding the C&O Canal and watching trains on the Metropolitan Subdivision. Out of hundreds of pictures, here is my favorite. I never got tired of watching trains pass through Harper's Ferry and Point of Rocks. I will be modeling the geography on my layout.

I think you are confusing us.... I (Sean) am building the Monocacy Subdivision. Brian just happens to take plain old boring N and HO scale models and turns them into super detailed freaks of nature! You need to check out the rest of his amazing work.

Thanks Sean. Never heard them referred to as freaks of nature before... ;)

It sounds like a bad thing when you leave out the Super Detailed part.

Sadly I have shelved plans for the layout.

The primary reason was that even as a hollow core door layout, I just didn't have the room for it. It was originally in the garage, but a fine dusting of cat litter started to blanket it. I moved it in to one of our spare rooms, but it just took up too much space the way the room was laid out. Also, the HCD size was just too small for what I had envisioned and limited what it could and should have been. I sold off most of my rolling stock (keeping my ultra detailed engines) and have shifted focus.

Instead, I will be focusing on completion of a 6X1 layout of a British terminus station that I can put up as a shelf. I will post on that when I kick off the project. It will be much easier and honestly, more realistic. I can convey two coach trains in this limited space much better than Coal haulers on a small loop of track.

It was sad to end the project, but I learned and will use that knowledge on my upcoming project.
