Just found this in AJC.com A body found earlier this month in a wooded area of east Alabama has been identified as a Gwinnett County man missing since before Christmas. St. Clair County, Ala., Sheriff Terry Surles said Wednesday the body discovered Jan. 3 near Riverside, Ala., is that of 61-year-old Barry Alan Helling of Snellville. Helling, who was found by two fishermen in woods off U.S. 78 east of Birmingham and about 140 miles from his home, died from an apparent gunshot wound to the back of the head. Helling was last seen leaving his house on Dec. 9, and was reported missing by his partner later that day Mike Gilmore
Whoa! mg: Hopefully the reason will be discovered, but in the meantime, my heart goes out to the family, and hopes they won't be soured on trains.
mg: That's sad news. I fear it's probably foul play. To be shot like that, does not sound accidental. Boxcab E50
I'm very sorry to hear of this. My deepest sympathy to his family, especially his daughter who first posted his disappearance.
This is indeed sad news. My condolences to his family and friends. It's sad when anyone dies, but it seems harder when it's someone who enjoyed doing the same thing you do.
Didn't know this person myself but he was a friend of a friend. Really hate to hear this news. My prayers go out to his family and friends. I hope they find the person who did this. Ever since I heard he was missing, I have not been out watching trains alone when home in Atlanta.
I remember when this story first broke, that the man was missing. This is absolutely terrible. It's bad enough that druggies are stealing all of the copper in our restoration projects, now homicide is possible just for being a railfan and trying to enjoy your hobby. I fear very much for our future.
Sad, very sad. My heart sank when I read "gunshot to the back of the head". Anymore, I look over my shoulder when train watching, especially in un-familiar places or low-end of town. My prayer's go out to the family.
MY symphthy to the family. That bites peoplejust cant leave people alone a simple fun day turn tragic for what a few dollarsmaybe and a car.
When they catch whoever did this, just have them sent down here to Louisiana. Us backwoods swamp folk have a way of dealing with trash like that. It involves a tall tree, a rope, some fishing line, some toothpicks and an alligator or two.
Richard- There might be more information aired in your area, than we hear nationally. Would you please post any local updates about this tragedy? Boxcab E50
Allthough their is nothing I can do to aswade there breivement I too offer my condolences to the family and hope they receive justice and closure. I am inclined to agree with my brethern in Louissana, And whoever did this has earned a long walk on a short rope.
It is a sad,sad world we live in, Here is a gentleman whos one joy is to go to areas to train watch and some sorry SOB kills him for no reason. I hope the killer has a mother, wife or daughter who will suffer at the hands of another preditor like himself, so he will no the anguish and pain that he put this family through...an Eye for an eye.
Wow, don't know about that...seems a little harsh, especially since we don't know that if the killer's daughter or mother were at all involved.
It don't matter!! he needs to feel empty like his victims family, hanging is to painless for this ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
