We went up to Minot for a quick visit. Originally it was for me to move a client up there, but that changed, so we still went and met up with "Hemi" for some railfanning on Fri evening. Great fun and lots of trains! I got three worthwhile video's then we went to eat and called it a day. "Hemi" was a great host and we had a great time, even in the bitter cold! With no further ado, here are the video's,
There's a LOT LOT LOT of stuff in the museum up there, t'boot! It is right next to the CP/Soo main, and and are on fb at Railroad Museum of Minot/new page. I don't use fb so I hope I got this right.... For instance, this hand operated drill for rail bolts! Now that would be 'fun' working this on a hot day! An operating Wig-Wag! And some model trains, of every size all over the place! Here's a few video's;
DO you know anyone that would go to Moose Jaw, take train photo's on RR property, and get paid and mileage reimbursed?
I've used one of those drills. With a sharp "bitt" and a little cutting oil, they do a pretty good job.
A heard a couple of nasty sounding wheel defects. The kind which might break a rail in such cold conditions.
It was great to meet you and your bride! It was also fun playing tour guide. The CP 199 we saw was unusual for having no autoracks. 199 typically has a block of autoracks on the headpin, but not Friday's. I need to process my own photos...
Moosejaw? Not at the moment... There were a few bad wheels going by, and it seems entirely too common anymore. It was a blast! Can't wait to see your photo's!!
Here's that 199. The railyard area photos were poor, so I didn't keep them. I suppose, this is all that I shot! Here's a bonus 199 from another night on that same snow pile. It's really noisy, not really a keeper, but the next shot is better. Fun with slow shutter speeds and a clean autorack.
