Does anyone know where I can get some good pictures of the EMD ex Milwaukee Road bandit units? I need pics of all sides and the nose. Kevin
Kevin, Several books have been published on the Soo with a few pics of MILW Bandits. Any units in particular you are after? Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree!
I Bought both of the Kato SD40-2's and now I have decided to change my time period and would like to do at least one of them in the bandit scheme sience that would be more correct. Im thinking I will do one in the EMD bandit and one in the SOO bandit, so any pictures of any engines would help, im not picky. Kevin
here is a link to a place http://sooline.railfan.net/diesel/soo.html hope this helps ------------------ yo,yo,yo,yo. yoyo10 is in da house! [This message has been edited by yoyo10_ca (edited 23 July 2000).] [This message has been edited by yoyo10_ca (edited 23 July 2000).]

Kevin

Kevin, I can personally vouch for the ease of doing a Soo SD40-2 in Bandit. As for the EMD bandit, which were these? Numbers? I'll scan a few pics I found helpful and send them in the next few days. Another possible source is Graham Stockfeld's Soo Line Archives. Be quick as Graham is moving servers very shortly and may be unavailable for a short time. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree!
Nice work Gary! Im not sure of the numbers but im assuming that EMD picked up the lease on some of the ex-Milwaukee SD40-2s. They did a real simple paint over of the big MILWAUKEE ROAD on the hood like SOO did and put a EMD logo on the back of each hood. they also painted the nose front black like SOO and slaped a logo on there also. Kevin
Thanks, Kevin. All of the early-built MILW units were retired in July 88. Most went to EMD and became part of their lease fleet. I'll email a listing of these units to you. Gary.
Straight out of the box, disassembled, the non-'bandit' areas masked, and then sprayed black. Glosscote was applied over the entire loco. I went for a distressing of the paint, which I did prior to the above, using Easy Lift Off (ELO) applied by Q-tip and gently rubbed until the demarcation line between black and orange blurred. Work slow and a small area at a time, washing the shell frequently to remove the stripper. Decals are Microscale 60-117 Soo red/white scheme for nose and numberboard markings, and 60-70-1 Gothic alpha-numerals for the cab letters and numbers. Gary. ------------------ Gary A. No probs, dude. I'll get onto it during the early part of the week. I may not get photos of 4 different units, but I can get you the numbers and if any details were different within the MILW orders.
