This might belong in another forum, but if you have a powerful computer you have got to get this sim. It is just like sitting in the cab of your favorite locomotive and hauling freight, coal, passengers or whatever over some very realistic and beautiful senery. You are in control of the locomotive and all of the operation of the train. Check it out at Amazon. Its only 15 bucks shipped right now. I have other simulators(flight) and this tops them all. If you love the rumble of a big diesel or steam loco you're gonna love this one.

It isn't good unless you get 3rd party content. The rolling stock, routes, and locomotives included in the game are not high quality.

I would highly recommend Maple Leaf Track's Kicking Horse Pass and SandPatch. Has Microsoftn come up with an updated version of the basic sim yet?

MS Train sim is what got me back in to trains.. I had sold off all my HO stuff many years ago(15+ years or so) And I had seen MS Train Sim in the stores. but at the time I was more interested in flight, even went up on 2 intro lesson for real.
But on the second flight I realized I was studing one of th local switching yard (cant recall if it was CP or CN) .. Anyway.. a few days laster i picked up MSTS and started at it. about a month later I started ordering stuff.. That was 3 years ago now. I started with a 2.5 x 5 layout, it now has expanded to over 100 of main line and about that again in inter loops, sides and so on. And Ive wrote 3 seprate software programs that are train related.
