Does anybody in this group have any ideas on how to keep these things on the rails? They are neat looking cars but track like a drunk bull moose. But I'm still havin' FUN!! ------------------ Catt!#118
Weight! The only suggestion I can make is to have a container in the well. Either a Fine-N-Scale solid resin job, or a deLuxe or Walthers with a tyre (tire) weight added inside. One other thought was replacement weights for the supplied ones - something with more mass like tungsten or depleted uranium. Not too practical at all! Gary.
I know exactly what you mean Catt, have a dozen of them and they are still in the box. they look superb but run like dogs lol. ------------------ http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000

Do you have MT trucks on them? I put some on mine. I haven't run them in big trains yet, but they seem to track better. Other then that, I guess maybe I would hollow out the bottom container and put more weights in. Dave D. DaveD, what MTL truck number did you use and did you add low profile wheels? ------------------ Residing in BNSF's St. Croix Subdivision near Trempealeau, WI
I have no problems if there are 2 waited containers and they run or 14 radius or more. Happy Railroading!! Dane N. ------------------ BCRailKing@Canada.com Teen Association of Model Railroaders- for information, contact Dane N. at TAMR2860@Canada.com http://www.tamr.org "I was DC, and went DCC!"
Well Mr. Curtis If somebody would quit piddling around with spinecars we might have some nice cast metal wellcars. . Hey Alan I said one week without bugging you. Really havin FUN!!!! All purpose if you please! ------------------ Catt!#118
Mine must be the exception, and not the rule, but I have had very good luck running 40+ car stack trains of only MDC cars with one or two containers in each car and NO ADDED WEIGHT! (Original trucks & couplers too!) They are a hit at the NTrak shows... (of course, I am also running on the generous radius, well tuned Red Line Chessie

Guess nobody said a word to mine as they seem to stay on the track with no weight. If I backup they sometimes get a bit out of shape. Art
I have a dozen for sale if anyone is interested? lol ------------------ http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Patrick... Switching to the MT trucks on those is a big pain. It took a lot of experimenting before I settled on something. What I used was the 35 type trucks with med extension. You do have to add low profile wheels, but I think they sell the truck that way now. The bad news, is that you have to cut that little piece of sill on the end of the car, just between the two side pieces. I hated doing it, but I couldn't find any other way. I saw an article in N Scale that showed how to use car mounted couplers, but it was very involved, and I didn't think I would have curves wide enough. I'm not saying this was the best way, but it worked for me. I believe MR did the same thing with they're MDC cars in the WC layout article. BTW... the mearsk ones are very nice. For some reason those didn't show up in stores much. Dave D. I only have a few of these cars, and changed the trucks to M/T 1037 (with normal wheelsets). I used one of the plastic spacer washers supplied with the trucks, so the cars probably sit a little too high, but they look, and run ok. I think I also cut a bit off the end sill. Pity they are not metal cars, though ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 12 August 2000).]

I was using 16" minimum at the time and had no problem with them, apart from their lack of weight. Tighter radii may have pulled the cars off track, especially if at the front of the train. Weighted containers solved that but for empty operations all I could suggest was a replacement weight made of something heavier than, and in the same shape as, the OEM weight. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much scope for additioanl weight to be hidden. Nice car, though! Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page N to the Nth degree! To summerize, Just use M/Ts, weighted containers, M/T trucks, and don't have tight turns. There was no real reason to summerize, I was just bored. I also have weighted my containers (bottom one only), run microtrains couplers and wheel sets. I find best results on long trains (50+ consist) to run them at the back of the consist.
