Just wanted to drop a quick note here...the McCloud Railway and BNSF have negotiated a haulage agreement with the Union Pacific to move interchange traffic between the McCloud and BNSF between Mt. Shasta City and Klamath Falls. What this means is that the Lookout branch of the McCloud is about to be history and will be removed soon.

The MCR actually owns only the first 18 miles between Bartle and Hambone; the 34 miles between Hambone and Lookout are owned by BNSF, with the MCR handling all operations and the two roads splitting maintenance. Expect to see the line east of Bartle removed at some point in the very near future. This line has handled an average of less than six cars per week over the last five years, so it's demise is not totally unexpected...

The McCloud will continue operations over their remaining trackage (Mt. Shasta City-McCloud-Bartle-Burney).

I'm sure glad your web site was recently posted. I am able to quickly hop over there, and look at a map.
