Now that NS has painted a unit in Wabash colors, I am wondering- Is there a map, somewhere on the 'Net, which would show still surviving segments of the Wabash RR today?
Previously, I had looked and did not find one. Comparing these two maps, http://wabashrhs.org/images/wabsysmap.jpg http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/pdf/systemmap2008.pdf It looks like the majority of the Detroit-Fort Wayne-Decatur-ST Louis and Kansas City mainline is still used by NS. NS gets to Chicago from Decatur over CN Trackage rights, I think it is safe to assume the majority of this portion of WABASH line was abandoned. It also appears NS chose the Nickel Plate's ROW for most of the route between Toledo and Chicago. If it is not NKP, it certainly is not WAB either, maybe part of CR/PC/PR/NYC. A portion in Northeast Indiana is operated by Indiana Northeastern. The WAB lines to Omaha and Des Moines appear to have been discarded as well, although small parts may still be operated by some shortlines. http://www.iowadot.gov/iowarail/railroads/maps/basemap.pdf
