Nice car! I do enjoy going into Menard's around the time they start stocking for Christmas and looking at all their train stuff, especially the O27 gauge. When our kids were little every year we would set up a Lionel train around the tree and add a new car each year. What I like about Menard's is how affordable their trains are. And of course, toy trains are just fun. Ralph
I am glad we do not have a Menard's. If we did, and I went in there near Christmas, I'd be buying these! But I can't afford to and have no room for them.
That's the "good news-bad news" part, one Menard's O27 boxcar is actully cheaper than most new N scale boxcars, but takes up the space of about 8 N scale cars in their boxes.
I wonder if Menards has an influential staffer who enjoys O Scale trains? Your pictures show these to be of excellent quality.
The Menard of Menard's is, among other things, a model railroader - o gauge three rail if memory serves. Their whole dive into this product line (including the buildings) are one of his "I'm gonna do it because I love it" projects.
10 years ago, I was working at the largest home improvement type store in the world - the brand new north Menard's in Rochester, MN. Probably not the largest, anymore, but still huge. At Christmas, we had all kinds of O scale trains. Sets, buildings, cars, locos, etc. Doug
Well, that explains a lot right there. The two stores I have visited didn't have a huge selection but what they had was very neat. Both of those M&M cars were ordered and shipped to store for pick up since I was traveling to a site near a store. Saved on shipping that way. Also, while I was in store, I found a couple of other things. Not M&M's but still a Mars Wrigley product is this Doublemint gum car. I'm guessing you can sense a theme here.
Another very nice car, BNSF FAN. Are you buying these cars to display or to run, or maybe you haven’t given it that much thought?
Mainly display but it's got me thinking I need to get my 55 year old Lionel swisher back in running condition and run these cars around the Christmas tree this year
LOL, spending money is the theme for model trains in general! Your second guess is about right as well
In my reply to Joe, I mentioned I was thinking about getting my old Lionel engine up and running for running a train around the tree this Christmas. Of course these colorful M&M cars will fit right in. That also brought to mind that the track I have is in terrible shape from years of bad storage when I was younger. So when I picked up that tank car, I asked if they had any track in store and was set off to a far corner of the store to find it. That's when I found the Doublemint car by the way. Well, they had 2 straight sections and plenty of curves. Nest to the track was this set shown below that comes with a full circle of track. I get it's a tad cheesy but I do still think the truck is kind of neat. I kind of chuckled at this set but as I was setting it back on the shelf, I noticed a sale tag. I actually did a double take when I saw it. Thought, no way that's right but it was. So I ended up getting for only a couple of dollars more than what the same pieces of track would have been separately. I haven't even cracked the box open yet but will post more when I do. For now, I'm a step farther down the path to being able to run some "O scale" at Christmas
Man you are on fire with this stuff for now. At least you meet the 14+ age group on the box, sorry, couldn't resist. Someone is having FUN at Menard's lately We don't have any here in the South. Does the back of the box show the track loop? Your like a kid in a M&M's candy store
Only physically Yeah, we don't where I am but a couple of recent business trips have had me near some so had to take advantage. I like them so far but it could just be the trains and it's something different from the same ole box box stores here at home. There one or two other cars I might add later but this should be enough to keep me in trouble for now.
