The site loses the fact that I am logged some of the time. Specifically, I'm shown as logged in when I initially bring up the site from scratch. My logged in status appears to be maintained when I first visit a sub-forum, e.g. Support. However, my logged in status is lost if I visit another sub-forum, e.g. Fallen Flags, though not always the next sub-forum visited. This is shown by the "You must be logged in to Reply to this thread." at the bottom right of that thread. I have been unable to repeat this condition reliably to give accurate steps that lead to the change of logged in status. I'll continue to search for any pattern leading to the change, but nothing so far.

We are looking into this. It seems one of our staff members is having the same issues. What browser are you using?

Observation...my logged in status was not transferred to the second page when I double-clicked on a photo to look at the full-size image. This occurred in the Weekend Photo Fun of the Weekly and Special Threads sub-forum.

Edit....I could not duplicate this same problem when I went back to Western Zephyr's post. This time double-clicking on the thumbnail image opened his tunnel mouth photo as an overlaid image in front of his post, instead of opening a second page for the image.

The log in status problem appears to be fully random. and kinda squirrelly, at least to the naked eye. I selected the TB link from the Internet Explorer Home Page. The TB Home Page came up showing that I was already logged in as it usually does. I clicked the "Here" button which took me to the TB Forum Main Page, still showing me logged in. I then clicked on the "Support" button taking me to that sub-forum, but now I was no longer logged in. I immediately went Back to the TB Forum Main Page, and it showed that I was still logged in as it did before I selected the Support sub-forum.

Guys, I'm not complaining or pestering. I'm just trying to provide information for whoever will be working on this bug, hoping they might see a pattern.

Thanks Hank. Do you have another browser like Firefox to try?

I'll try Chrome. If you prefer Firefox, I can download and install it.

Interesting, though disturbing....there is no login problem this time, even though this was a fresh IE/TP execution from a blank Desktop. I hate it when problems don't repeat under what I believe to be the same circumstances. So obviously I'm not sure if a Chrome, or Firefox, login will give us reliable information. :-(

EDIT....Ignore the last paragraph, I had to log in to post the Reply. My avatar was showing while I was composing my reply indicating that part of the system knew I was logged in. My login status was lost when I selected the Post button.

Charlie, this login is with Chrome. I'l try to Post as before with IE-11. I'll edit this post reporting if I was required to re-login or not.

Edit - Post was accepted like a scalded dog, no re-login required.

Also, the page requiring me to select Here when I first brought up the TB site did not appear. I went straight to the Forum Main Page and was able to select Support immediately. Is it possible that IE-11 is the root of the problem, though this observation is purely anecdotal.

I was able to develop a comparison of the login problem between the IE-11 and Chrome systems.

Chrome: TB Home Page accessed through Chrome Search engine. TB Home Page came up showing that I was already logged in, I assume from the last time I logged in with Chrome more than two hours earlier. Furthermore, I was taken directly to Forum Main Page without having to select the Here button. I was still logged in after selecting and transferring to the Support sub-forum, and remained logged in when I went Back to the Forum Main Page.

IE-11: TB Home Page accessed through IE Favorites. TB Home Page required me to login even though I had been on the TB site with IE-11 more than two hours earlier. TB then required selecting the Here button before transferring me to the Forum Main Page. Login status was lost when the Support sub-forum was accessed. Login status still lost when I went Back to Forum Main Page.

This comparison provides more anecdotal evidence that the log in status problem may be caused by contention issues between Internet Explorer, Version 11 and the XenForo system. The Chrome system does not appear to have these same issues, though it may have other as-yet unobserved issues.

BTW, the above text was entered while using the Chrome system.

Update...Last night I logged in with IE11 as a status check on this issue and found the following change.

Instead of being lost as I moved through the Forum, my logged in status was maintained while I visited multiple forums, sub-forums, and threads. This was evidenced by my avatar displaying on each page after every move, and by returning randomly to the Home page to verify my login name still showed.

Assuming this issue had been corrected, I returned to this thread to post this observation. However, when I selected the Post Reply button, the popup You Must Be Logged In To Post, etc. was displayed. I selected OK and went immediately to the Home page which showed that I was still logged in. I verified login by opening my avatar and confirming my profile, etc.

This is a new symptom, so I assume changes are being made to correct other issues within the system that are interacting with the code causing this issue. I wish I could help further rather than merely being a tester.

I've had to login four times this morning as I worked through the site, even though I click the 'remember me' box! It's almost like the program ejects the site cookies!
I use Vista and have not had this problem in the past.

Bill, I believe that's an issue with later versions of Internet Explorer. What browser are you using when this occurs?

Bill, recommend downloading and installing Chrome. I've found no issues between the new TB system and Chrome. I use Chrome only for logging into TB. I use IE for all other Internet browsing due to many features with IE that Chrome does not offer, at least that I've been able to find.

Ah.....remember the authors of "stealing your privacy"....the great google...and who developed chrome?

I won't have it on my computer...but that's just me.
I use FireFox (and IE8 here, IE6 on another) and prefer older versions of FF since there is less frills.

Current, FF 25.0. May revert to what is on the other box, FF 12.0.
I like the "less frills" approach of 12.0.

There are folks who claim that they get pop-ups and ads with FF..yet there is nothing in FF that does that.other than alerting you to redirects or blocking known attack sites (you would not believe how many "model railroad" sites, or at least ones who claim to be, get blocked.

Those are the only notifications I get on FF. And, I go into the program, find the updater, and re-name it "hold15JUL15updater.exe" leaving the root there, just new words in front, and it cannot find the updater to update you to 39.0.

I'm trying Firefox right now. We'll see if it lets me post without additional sign-in.

Looks like this is the answer! Yippeeeee!
