VIA has photos of all their equipment on their website. Renaissance equipment is at http://www.viarail.ca/equipements/en_equipment_Renaissance.html. There are other pictures at http://www.viarail.ca/tourists/en_tour_phot_envo.html.

I know there's a site somewhere that contains marketing material for publications, and there are some renaissance photos included. I can't remember the link right now, but I'll try and find it for you, if you like.

    Renaissance car paint scheme

    Hi Bourkinafasso,

Here are a couple of pics I took of Via Rail train #14 "The Atlantic" at Moncton New Brunswick 2008.1113.

Eventually all Via Rail F40's will wear this paint scheme.

If your interested, I can take photos of the dining car and transition car paint schemes. The transition car is only used during the summer on the Atlantic, so it will be a few months before I can upload the pics.

Did you need any end shots or undercarriage close ups?

I believe there is a Via Rail Special Interest group that is working on getting the Via paints released commercially. Email me if your interested, and I'll look up a contact for you.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Milne

    Hi!

Just to add a note about the Renaissance equipment...

I'm a 'Frequent Traveller' on VIA Rail and I don't like the Renaissance equipment.

The Passenger cars have little space for baggage at your seat. They also have very Noisy Blowers under the seats for circulating the air. These blowers are never 'off' and make it uncomfortable on a long trip.

Outside, there's no Handrail as you walk up or down the stairs, just a handle on the car itself. This makes for dangerous conditions for those of us who are no longer young!!!

In the Sleepers, the rooms are too small, the beds too Narrow, Short, and Hard for anyone weighing more that 80 pounds... At your head is a Blower which you Can't Turn-off! Using a pillow provides some comfort but a switch would be better.

The bathroom is so small that you can wash your hands at the same time as you are sitting on the toilet....just do it is the proper order!

The door handles stick out into the narrow corridors just waiting to snag your pants or sweater as the train sways along the tracks.

I haven't been in a Delux Bedroom yet so I have no comments about it.

I've told the VIA folks about my concerns.

Another point is that they are now Promoting the Renaissance trains between Montreal and Toronto as their 'Premier' Service...Hmmmmm With problems such as I've seen like doors which won't close and Heating systems not supplying Hot Air to Passengers, it makes me wonder.

They are also promoting the use of the lounge car between the VIA 1 car and the Baggage car as a 'Bonus' for Only the VIA 1 Passengers. I've never seen anyone use it on any of my trips. Most VIA 1 passengers are Businessmen who'd rather stay in their seats, working on their Laptops and Cell phones. Others may be families but don't like to wander through the train while it is moving.

With tables too small to hold a food tray, we tried to use it for breakfast once when they ran the 'overnight' train between Toronto and Montreal. We ended up sitting at separate tables to keep the tray on the table.

I've heard others have said that only the 'crew' seems to use the space.

That's my 'Rant' for today. I much prefer to travel on the Budd equipment and on the LRCs too.
