I'm in the process of installing a select micro in a locomotive and as I go though the install process, I check for shorts along the way. I had just soldered the motor contacts and rail contacts and wanted to test the unit. Unit does not operate on address 03. I've reset the decoder and still nothing. I've tried reading the decoder's info using Lokprogrammer but after about 4 minutes I get a error stating, "The detected decoder is not supported". Any suggestions folks? I've left the wrapper on but did cut a slit allowing me to removed the violet wire.

One thing to note is that while it is trying to read the info from deocder, the motor will spin multiple times before receiving the error message.

This is a brand new decoder.

What loco are you trying to install into? What project is loaded on the decoder?

You say you have a LokProgrammer. Do you have a LokTester you can attach the decoder to? That way, you are reading "clean" (without any locomotive issues). Or, from LokProgrammer in your current situation, first try selecting "Tools|Update decoder firmware", and then try reloading the sound project file from the ESU site.

Reset, on LokSounds, does not necessarily reset the address back to 03. It goes to whatever address was set as the default by LokProgrammer.

Rick thanks for the reply. This is brand new and does not have a sound file installed yet. The decoder isn't currently attached to the engine now at all and I have wires clipped to the red and black wires and still having issues. I have tried the firmware update but again, same error. I have restarted my PC and the programmer itself. I have attempted to update the programmer software but it is showing up to date. I have held a battery to the power wires when it was attached to the motor and it did cause the motor to spin so I'm at a loss as to whats going on.

At this point, my guess is a bad decoder, then. With LokProgrammer and red/black wires connected directly to its output, if LP is not recognizing it, something wrong. Call Matt at ESU for replacement.

I always load the project files via LP and test the decoder before installing into loco.

I will definitely start doing that, checking before hand. Will save time in the long run.

Whats the best way to get in touch with Matt? I've tried emailing him and Loksound with no luck.

There is a Facebook group for ESU, and he can be found there, as well as the LokSound Yahoo Groups. Of course, one can always call ESU tech support 570-980-1982

That usually mean that you have a bad or poor connection to the decoder.
Have you updated your programmer-some times there is a newer version that need to be installed.
To contact Matt- e-mail seems to work well- go to ESU web page and get his e-mail address there.
