Logo on M&StL cabooses

I became interested during the past ten months or so in the Minneapolis & St. Louis and I now have, decorated for the M&StL,
several cars, three locomotives, a doodlebug set by Bachmann, and two cabooses. The doodlebug was my biggest challenge and,
with the help of a few fellow Trainboard members, I managed to end up with a fairly nice M&StL gas electric. For the round logo
that these gas-electrics sported, I had to go to the decal set for the F-7 diesel, and it worked satisfactorily.

Now I would like to "logo" the cabooses. It seems there are two kinds of these round logos, 1) the black and red one found on the
side of the G-E, and on the nose of the F-7, and 2) the round, white-colored logo that simply says, in slanted letters, "The Peoria
Gateway". I have seen a few pictures of the white logo on cabooses, and I have seen a picture of a beautiful model of a caboose with
the black and red, but not yet the black and red in an actual photograph. Did the M&StL use both style logos on their cabooses?
I kind of hope so, because I think the black and red logo looks nice, and also, because I already have them, ready to go. Any M&StL
historians out there who can tell me about what the caboose logo situation was? Of course, I know that sometimes the cabooses had
no logo at all, but as I say, I think they'd look nicer with a logo. (On such small things we model railroaders thrive.)

The white logo should have been the last coloration. This being the Schroeder era when diesels were painted in the red/white colors, 1956 to the end. The other logo pre-dates the re-paintings, during the Sprague era.

I looked through my "M&StL in Color" book and saw a couple of pictures with black and red logo. Not real great pictures but enough to see the logo on a bay window and cupola caboose. I have the same decals and want to do up some in the future.

Last week while riding the bike trail up by the Cedar Lake shops I noticed that a signal pole that was previously standing was gone. Someone cut it down maybe a year or more ago. The insulators were gone but the holders were there for the taking. I got 6 as my sole M&StL mementos.

    Nancy-

Take at look at my web site, in the "TOUR" section. There is some M&ST.L paperwork from my available collection for viewing.

Thank you, hoyden---that seems to give me sufficient confirmation to use the black and red on my cabooses. Plus, yesterday on the auction site I saw a fancy American Model Builders HO kit for a M&StL caboose, and it pictured the caboose with the black and red version of the logo; now it is VERY unlikely that a serious outfit like that would make a kit with an erroneous logo! So now I'll go ahead with my "preferred" plan.

All this started a year ago when I bought a Bachmann 4-6-0 on the famous auction site because it was outfitted with a proper SMALL tender. The loco was decaled for M&StL, and so nicely (even the number on the sand dome) that I couldn't bear to change it. Instead, I made up a caboose to go with it. Then doodlebugs went on sale (and M&StL used a lot of those), so I got one of those. One thing just led to another. But I do think the M&StL is an interesting railroad.

That might've been mine. Is it #237?

It surely must be! And, so it wouldn't be lonely, I took a Model Power mogul and dressed it up as M&StL 312. Plus, although I'm not a great fan of diesels, I acquired a yellow and gray RS. Plus, of course, the doodlebug.

All this got started because I was completely disgusted with Bachmann foisting on us the ten wheeler with a practically coast to coast tender. I never could figure out why they did that. And hardly anybody objected.
