This is another view might help from a farther perspective, this is standing over near coal operations. Just so much to do and lots of areas incomplete to get a good sense. Hard to get good pictures since my layout is close to garage walls.
Jeff, thanks for clearing it up. Sure is coming along nicely. I love your pictures btw. You'll have avery fun layout when done.
I have 2 garages where I live, this is in the 2 and half car garage and that is roll up door out to driveway if I get what your seeing. I only keep my Harley in here (under the black cover) and the wife has the other half for her needs...sigh Love the Harley but kinda in the way
My scratch built log cars and a boxcar casting. I built one log car from styrene, and the box car I made a mold then cast it. It's solid resin.
I've never had good success in making detailed things from styrene, I only tend to use it for bulkier surfaces and aligning stuff for rail height.
Made a little progress. Finished the foam molding around the mill (mountains) then last of the plaster was added. Next paint brushed down the main dark coat then on to the air brushing layers of color. Once all air brush coloring is completed I can build the 2 road bridges needed and pour the resin for the water in the river coming out of the mountain and main body of water then out the backside towards the twin railroad bridges. After that I can work the forest ground detail, trees and such. Last activity will be to detail the mill itself.
Made a little more progress with the Mountain-Truck Logging road scenery behind the Mill, made the first wooden bridge crossing. I still have lots more ground debris to add before Stacking in the Trees-but just about ready to work the water features, need to work the illusion of depth in layers. Then lastly detailing the Mill itself...didn't realize how much real estate was on this corner-seems to take forever...
Count me in for a common carrier disguised as a logger's road. Too bad there are a lot of broken links in here, I'm assuming part of the Photobucket nonsense. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Both you guys have interesting projects going on. I appreciate the updates and especially the photos. Having driven log trucks I get a bang out of these.
That is indeed part of these troubles. Another is when we switched forum software, a few years ago, that also broke a few...
Hey, the pictures are working now?! Nice road and rolling stock! I'm headed back to the depot tonight with my phone holder and a tripod, hopefully get some straight overhead photos of the glass plant and chemical works Sanborns, so I can get them in my CAD program and start measuring. Then I can begin brainstorming if I really want to pursue this insanity or model something smaller, haha. I'm planning to build in sections, so the glass plant doesn't have to be first. I could start with the chemical works in East Kane (have the Sanborn for that I posted already), or I could start in Lamont or McKinley, but I wish I could find some more information on them first. Everything that was at either location during the K&E era is gone, replaced with camps and natural gas facilities respectively.
I went back and got better angle ones, direct overhead, CAD drawings hopefully started tonight. Oh, and I also found a map you probably have or seen already Randy, but it's the W&D lands map in practically pristine condition. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I grew up in the White Mountains of Arizona, and the Apache Railway hauled. Logs out of Maverick, As. There was a huge sawmill there and lumber was hauled to Holbrook, AS and the Sante Fe. Chips were hauled to the pulpmill in Snowflake where the Apache shops were. Chips were picked up in Holbrook off the Sante Fe and taken up to the pulpmill at Snowflake to make paper out of. Sadly the pulpmill is gone and the Apache RR is gone to. A number of years ago the track was pulled up between Maverick and Snowflake. I miss those old Alco C-420's making their music.
They tore up the tracks. The Western New York & Pennsylvania still runs ALCOs. I catch them running up and down river occasionally when I visit a friend in Franklin. I stitched the Sanborns of the glass plant together while my work computer was compiling earlier. The one piece is a little skewed, but not near as bad as before, seems usable.
A nice guy on this forum told me he had a video on you tube and told me where it was. I get on you tube and can't even look for it. I used to use a search deal, but it's no longer there. Anyone know how a dummy can find a video now days? Sure frustrating. Thanks folks
