I have an Atlas N-scale (DCC Master Line) that is suddenly just stopping randomly. It can be slow, at full speed, clear track, it doesn't matter. Usually won't run for more than about a minute before stopping. Lights are fully controllable and never fail, and so I suspect something with the motor? With the shell off, I can spin the rotor manually with power applied, and sometimes it will start right up, yet other times it won't budge. Any ideas? It can't be two years old, and has been a really sweet runner. Thanks.
Very possible that one of the motor leads is not making good contact with motor pads on the underside of the board (a common issue). Two things to try: (1) take the board out and build up a bit of solder on each pad, making it a bit thicker; (2) gently bend the the motor leads upwards, so that there is a bit more "spring" in their contact against the underside of the board.
Thanks Rick. So simple and so brilliant. Yeah, I had it apart a couple weeks ago for something else, and probably caused it. I thought I would gather ideas before I just split it open.
Yep, that was it Rick Brodzinsky! One tab was bent too far downwards. She seems back to normal so far, and is removed from B/O. Thanks again.
