    Greetings,
    I would love advice / suggestions / ideas on:
    Hands free magnifier
    Desk top light
    Clamps on a stand
    Hands free magnifier with light and clamps?
    Or some variation on the above.

    Purpose - Augmenting my limited vision
    * Cutting cardstock buildings
    * Cleaning / oiling my locomotives / cars
    * Maybe soldering details

    I need to put a large lighted hands free magnifier on my Christmas list. Given the work I'm doing there is a chance Santa might make an early delivery.

    Thanks for any and all advice.

    Might not be exactly what you are looking for but I live with one of these on almost all the time I'm doing N scale stuff and/or electrical projects...

    It has a battery compartment but made it so I could use some rechargeable drone batteries that I have (also cheap to buy). I have a couple batteries and swap them out and recharge them off the Magnivisor.

    More info on the visor and how I modified them for the batteries here ....

    They come with some different power lens and I'm using the 1.5X for now. Love them so much that I have a second one so I always have one either in the shop at the layout or workbench there and also at the work area in the house. Couldn't live with out them,

    I'm getting back into it and have tried putting things together and I feel I will need one of those as well. At work, quality assurance tech, I used them and found them very hand. And that was a few years ago.
    The one shown looks very interesting.

    Thanks for the responces.
    I will need to do a deep dive on them (with Santa's / CFO / my Wonderful Wife) help.

    One addition comment is that the visor can be used anywhere immediately and the light on it is really handy in some of those situations. In fact I have it on most of the time as I've found that as I've gotten older I need more and more light on a subject. Working on the layout I can lean over and get a closer look at a turnout or something else that I'm installing or working on.

    Not saying don't look at a stationary magnifier but I think you would find the visor type useful in more situations.

    Definitely go the LED route. I have one of those, albeit just a screw in LED bulb. I could not function without it.

    I don't have the help of Santa's / CFO / former Wives help. Just the Baby Sitter. She suggests a retirement home.
    Maybe the head band system would be the best. As said it could help with things away from the work bench. But it's probably more expensive.

    About $35 right now vs. $40 for the other one plus the battery conversion if you want to do that (I had those items).

    I first bought a magnefying lamp. Hated it, was never where I wanted it, and distorted the view. So I bought a visor type, much like Sumner's, it has 5 different strengths of replacement lens up to 5x. I love these and use them all the time. I can even use them on the layout, something that can't be done with a stationary lamp.

    I second the visor from the above Amazon link, it's the same I use (different brand, but identical model)

    @Stephane Savard Now that you mention it, yes. My mother had one. It was crazy plus when you see my work area you will know why the visor may be the way to go.
    Thanks you! and

    @sidney Thank you! Great link.

    I have used two in the past. The first had no lights. Not good. The second had flashlight style that helped. Back then the light bulbs came in 'soft warm' and 'daylight'. LEDs come the same. I found that 'daylight' bulbs even helped a lot.
    Do these have such lighting with there LED?
    The early ones only had one magnification. The new multi-mags will be very helpful in my advance years. (I'll be 72 on Japans Thanksgiving Day.)

OH ya and the light tilts separate from everything too BIG PLUS

    After reading the opinions, remembering using both kinds and checking out the link I decided it would be worth adding it to an order of bicycle parts Amazon has. Especially the issues I've had looking over some HO models I have to assemble and will probably get more.

    Had a rather boring Halloween though. :(

    I got these exact ones in today and love them. Although I do NOT wear my regular glasses when using them and that could be an issue. I do not think they are made to be used while wearing your regular glasses, as they basically fit like glasses?

    Anyway, I will really know when I return to the pesky Atlas U25B locomotive and the motor attempt again at some point.

    I'll tell you one thing. First product I have ever ordered where you could actually use said product to READ the instructions :) Is that a Catch 22? I'll now be able to read those tiny arse instructions that come with Christmas decorations, electronic items, etc...

    And on the brand I got ( link above ), everything is adjustable almost. It's crazy!

    Here they are, I have the head band attached right now. Five lenses in box and cleaning cloth. You can either use typical ear pieces or the elastic band. Headband adjustable, LED light also, length between lens from eyes adjustable closer or farther away from your eyes, and you can flip them away from your eyes towards the top of your head in case you need to put your normal glasses on, or just use your normal vision. If you have normal vision that is? And five lenses 1.0 to 3.5!
